Seems like Diamond was bankrolling the whole industry and keeping it a float for many years like some sort of loan shark. Maybe that’s why so many companies put up with their crap for so long
its was a monopoly for a long time, penguin killed it
I’d actually have to say DC was the first one to set this in motion when they switched to Lunar.
Dc may have saved the comic industry with that.
Also my problem with the Kickstarter method is the cost. I just want a regular cover of a book and not have it cost $30
Yup, ditching Diamond was one of the best things that could have happened.
Diamond the loan shark? PRH has been bank rolling Diamond. Did you not see their debts? They owe these small publishers money, too. They’re the opposite of what you just said, lol.
I could deal with it as long as I could turn around and sell if for $60.
IDW is stating they are worried about their future even tho they switched to PRH because PRH is putting Diamond’s debt on them, or something. I don’t quite understand what I’ve read about this in the news and need someone to explain it to me.
Also, Antarctic Press has canceled a lot of comics due to Diamond.
Lady Death stuff is going back to Kickstarter and direct to consumers.
Lots happening.
Seriously though, will Free Comic Book Day be happening this year at the rate things are going?
any fcbd from diamond is questionable atm, prh will still ship there orders
diamond has said if they aren’t bought by April 1st they may have to close, fcbd is may 3rd. diamond may not be in business by than
In the past FCBD books have come fairly well in advance of FCBD so let’s keep our hopes up.
has dynamite said anything yet ?
i cant se lunar or penguin wanted to handle 20+ cover per issue
Yes that is now, PRH is only in the game recently with comics. Diamond has been letting people debts pile up for years and buy stuff on credit and now someone is going to have to pay up.
And Diamond got books to stores before Wednesday…something’s gotta give!!!
Who has been buying on credit and not paying up? Retailers? That’s on Diamond if they let a failing shop run on debt without a tight leash.
Reality is, Diamond’s service sucked. It was so bad it forced a new distributor to emerge and an existing one to add periodicals. Within no time, the new players far surpassed Diamond’s capabilities despite their decades of experience.
Diamond failed due to its own incompetence. 98% of comic book volume has improved as a result of their decline. We might see a tiny percentage go down with them (micro publishers). They’ll have to go D2C and/or Kickstarter. Overall, the retailer experience and financial bottom line improves not having to deal with Diamond. That will get passed onto customers.
Diamond is going after accounts with unpaid balances. Seems they want any money they can get now…
