eBay Headaches

Honestly I think a good combined shipping policy is more attractive than free shipping. If I’m looking for multiple books I’ll look for the other books I want from the same seller if they have a good combined shipping policy. Sometimes I’ll even pay a little more for the book compared to another seller because with combined shipping I might save a little or break even.

An irritation of mine…creating a shipping label doesn’t mean squat.
Ebay acts like a situation is resolved and an item is on the way because a tracking number has been provided.
If the item has not been accepted by the shipping company…it hasn’t been shipped.
Just a delay tactic & game shady sellers use.

I’ve had packages arrive without ever being scanned until they hit my local post office.

Same and I know that can happen (although usually at least the label is printed in a timely manner)…this seller…who I’ll name if they don’t come through has been playing the game though.
No communication, never shipped & it took a EBay not received complaint to force their hand. To which all they did was create a shipping label.

I personally watch them scan every package…don’t care if they “say” I can leave it on the counter and “they’ll get to it.”

That’s burned me before.

Wow. Not a headache at all. My son Joe is a sneaker head and decided to let his Jordan 4 Pine Greens go. So being a good dad I listed them on multiple platforms; eBay, Mercari and Facebook marketplace. eBay got hits right away. Multiple watchers and tons of views. Size 10 is a good size for selling shoes. So about two days go in and they sell. I get the notification go to print the label, and what is this? I have to send them to eBay to be authenticated.

What?

I know there are knock offs but never had to do this before.

The shoes sold yesterday and I printed the FedEx label and dropped them off at the FedEx store last night.

Just got notification, less than 24 hours later, that the shoes have been authenticated and the money has been released to me.

All in all an easy transaction. Wow eBay does something right.

If you remember the shoes Supra, they went out of business some years back cuz the nockoffs where making them take a huge hit. And people where selling them like crazy on eBay. I almost bought some till I saw them up close. Maybe thats the reason why eBay does this now? Who knows. Glad all went well with the sale.

Glad they don’t authenticate comics. Imagine how many spine ticks and finger prints, dog ears would appear between shipment and delivery…?

And that’s just CGC books

Let know if you or your son have any interest in a pair of original 1985 Air Jordan 1 Chicago’s.

I had them back in middle school. What you asking and what size

8.5 and I’m asking $4k for you…. But I’ll trade too.

Won’t fit him. Good luck on the sale. Are they unworn?

Looks like tried on at most. Super fresh soles and an unworn serial number.

Ugh. I know people say to not accept offers but I like to. Of course that is until you get guys like this.

And my response could have been a lot worse.

I always allow offers, but I ALWAYS put a minimum offer restriction in. If I’m asking $40 for something, I typically allow offers within about 20% off. So, I set the min offer at $32. I’ll often see the same person offer $24, then $28, then $32, as the first two were auto-rejected. At that point, if I want to move it, I’ll accept. Otherwise, I’ll often do a “can we meet in the middle at $36?” Seems like the majority of my sales go down that path.

Could have been a typo but I think honestly sometimes they might throw those types of offers out in hopes someone accidentally accepts it as well.

Not really a headache. Not even a big deal, just something funny/interesting.

I noticed a 50 cent fee on one of my recent sales, and it was listed under ‘other’ on the ebay app. On the regular desktop site it has more info and lists it as a Road improvement and food delivery fee. Turns out this is a Minnesota thing. The buyer is in Minnesota, so it checks out. It was a $200 sale, so whatever. But for those of you selling $1 books, you may want to add Minnesota to your list of excluded places (not even sure that’s possible)

Oh and of course ebay included the 50 cents in the total amount that it uses to calculate the FVF. :man_shrugging:

Starting July 1, 2024, there is a Retail Delivery Fee of 50 cents that applies to certain transactions involving retail delivery in Minnesota . Retail delivery means a delivery to a person located in Minnesota of certain items as part of a retail sale. (See Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 168E.)

I got a funny offer that’s too unbelievable to be believed. So I listed a copy of Ultimate Spider-Man the black costume variant a while back. It was going anywhere from $70 to $80. The copy I had had a GIANT crease all the way down the front cover. Looks like a stacking crease like the book was at the bottom of a diamond shipping box).

It doesn’t break color but looks terrible. I tried everything by pressing it and working on it to get the crease out, couldn’t do it. The cover stock is a little thicker than normal and everything I tried wouldn’t work. So I listed as is and took pictures to make sure to show the giant crease in every angle.

Wanted to get rid of it so I listed it at $45 or best offer. Needless to say I got a ton of views and watchers. Sale was imminent.

So someone comes along and offers $44, yes 98% of the asking price. Like wtf lol. If you wanted that book badly enough why not just pay the extra $1 instead of waiting for me to accept it. The risk was someone would come along and snatched it up, they could see the views and watchers. So silly.
