eBay Headaches

Hard to sympathize with low ball offers if you don’t exclude them. Sometimes you just have to make a listing “stupid proof.”

I feel the same way about people that stop the microwave with 1 or 2 seconds left…then leave it for the next person to clear it.

That and people that leave shopping carts in parking spots when the cart return was literally a spot or two away…

The microwave thing is a real pet peeve of mine. Makes me ill.

The shopping cart theory:

“The shopping cart is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person is capable of self-governing. To return the shopping cart is an easy, convenient task and one we all recognize as the correct, appropriate thing to do. To return the shopping cart is objectively right. There are no situations other than dire emergencies in which a person is not able to return their cart. Simultaneously, it is not illegal to abandon your shopping cart. Therefore, the shopping cart presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what is right without being forced to do it.”

“No one will punish you for not returning the shopping cart, no one will fine you, or kill you for not returning the shopping cart. You gain nothing by returning the shopping cart. You must return the shopping cart out of the goodness of your own heart. You must return the shopping cart because it is the right thing to do. Because it is correct. The Shopping Cart Theory, therefore, is a great litmus test on whether a person is a good or bad member of society.”

For the record, I’m a return the cart type of person and I’ve even taken carts others have left to return to the cart returns or even back into the store on my way in.

Honestly I think the theory stands and truly tells us a lot about people.

I think Canada have other countries beat when it comes to pet peeves. For those that don’t know, milk is sold in bags here in Canada. So to drink a glass of milk you have to put the bags of milk in a milk jug that’s made to hold a bag of milk. You have to snip the bag with a pair of scissors and then pour out the milk.

Here’s the problem, and this happens in every household all across Canada. When someone pours their glass of milk and then realize they it’s almost empty, without fail they will pour 99% of the milk out and leave a few drops for the next person. The theory is that the next person will pour out those few droplets and refresh the jug with a fresh bag of milk. It’s absolutely maddening and everyone hates it when it happens to them but without fail it always happens. Absolutely disgraceful behavior.

LOL, I never knew that until recently that milk in bags only happened in Canada. The funny one I just found out about from a married couple is that one of them likes to load the dishwasher with all the utensils business side up (knives/forks points up) to make sure they have the best chance of getting cleaned, the other half wants them all down for safety when emptying and says it makes no difference to cleanliness. Divorce level material right there.

I’ll even make the long walk back to the storefront if there’s no cart return nearby. I’ll bring stranded carts with me as well, because why not? I don’t mind the walk as it’s exercise.

I have some knifes that fall though the grates if I put them sharp side down. Have to risk it with those!

The local discount grocery store Aldi makes you deposit a quarter to get a cart. Return your cart to get your quarter back. My kids will run down the street to Aldi and spend time to return carts. They will come back with a pocket full of quarters.

Nah, I’m cool with this. I do it and next time I use the microwave I just hit start and add more time. Sometimes I leave 2 seconds sometimes it’s 20 seconds or more. Whenever something needs to come out it comes out and I just open the door. Y’all are definitely way too triggered by a microwave.

Those that leave the microwave with seconds left doesn’t bother me but I will reset it if I see it doing this from my own OCD tendencies.

There should be an “EBay Idiots” thread.

Person advertises a comic as NM, but not only will they not take out of the bag, they post pictures of the back…with the board still inside the bag…which show the comic is still being stored in a bag that’s likely 30+ years old.

Does not instill much confidence this person knows anything about taking care of comics, much less how to grade them.

Off-White/White Backing Board.

Ordered a slab on eBay. Arrived fine, but took for ever for priority mail.

Was a little nervous because I was out when it was to be delivered, and was raining pretty good. But figured since it was advertised as priority it was insured. It was left in a dry spot when delivered by the post office so no issue there.

What I noticed upon opening was that it was shipped media mail. In a large box no less. How did the PO let that slide?

So long story short, it was advertised (and I paid $12 plus tax) for priority. It was shipped media mail (no insurance added, less than $5). That means it would have been held at the PO until I paid for the difference, or if it arrived damaged I could not submit a PO claim and eBay would not have reimbursed me either…and I’d have to fight with the seller for a return (does not accept them) or full reimbursement.

My thought is an email to the seller letting them know this is against eBay rules (I’ll need to dig a little, but I’m sure they have a policy on false advertising) and is not acceptable, and therefor request a partial refund on shipping (difference between priority and media mail). And then put a neutral feedback that arrived ok but shipped media mail, leaving all the risk with the buyer should anything had gone wrong during shipment.

Thoughts? Fair? Not Fair? Too lenient?

Has 100% positive feedback (over 500)

Thankfully the book got there safely. In the end that is all that matters. I would do neutral feedback stating that you paid for priority and was shipped media which is against usps rules (not eBay’s). Or contact him and say you paid for priority and he shipped media and ask for a refund on shipping difference. If he says no or ignores you hit him with neutral feedback. Since the book got there fine I wouldn’t do negative.

No, not giving a negative. But that is a bait and switch tactic rooted in greed, and puts all the risk on the buyer unknowingly. People should know this person is dishonest in how they represent themselves.

I don’t even want the $5…that’s more of holding someone accountable. But I highly doubt it would change the sellers behavior. I’m more interested that others are aware so they enter a transaction with that knowledge.

Do the neutral. Clearly state over charges for shipping.

Tell the guy you paid for priority and didn’t get it. Ask for an immediate refund of the difference. Since the book arrived with no issues there really isn’t much more than can be down outside of leaving feedback. He knows full well he was trying to get a few extra bucks from overcharging for shipping that wasn’t used. IF he’s a pill about refunding the difference, ding him.
