Tell Ebay the item is described at NM which the industry defines as a 9.4 and the buyer is upset that it is in higher than advertised grade. Maybe they will deny the return request.
Iāve modified my methodology of listing raw books due to years (albeit not often) of āI disagree with your listing conditionā.
I take more pictures now and within the listing I have phrases like āreally niceā, or ābeautifulā, or āexceptionalā, and include details like āno visible defectsā; or I list every single defect and identify the picture that has the defect. Then, finally, and painfully - Iāll even identify the manufacturing defects and associated picture showing it.
A tremendous amount of work, but itās worked for me, and has significantly reduced/practically eliminated the emails back to me with dissatisfaction.
The ā9.8ā thing has made hobbyists into a-holes and they forget that 9.4 Near Mint is not 9.8.
Yeah, I scan my books in and take pictures of any defects and list them in the description. This is actually my first return in 200+ sales. In our exchange, once the buyer still showed a lack of understanding after sending them info on bindary tears, I cut my losses.
So itās still NM as advertisedā¦
These are the types of people I would not want to be in a personal relationship with⦠theyāre called āhigh maintenanceā⦠I bet this is the same person who make sure thereās no foot prints on the carpet for days after they vacuumā¦
Most recognized grading guides donāt allow bindery tears on NM moderns.
But I have CGC 9.4s riddled with spine ticksā¦so thereās thatā¦
9.4 NEAR MINT (NM)
Nearly perfect with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. Bindery tears must be less than 1/16" on Silver Age and later books, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/4" have been noted. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples are generally centered; may have slight discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
Uhhh⦠your ā ā ā ā ā ā ā dog was chasing the mail man you turd muffin!
Priceless
How did they know it delivery was today if they didnāt check tracking, or have that capability.
I sure hope you just responded with that screen shot? And nothing else. No need to elaborateā¦
I donāt know that they tracked it today or not or just knew it was supposed to be delivered. I did respond with that exact screen shot. That is what the screen shot is from.
Shipping has become a real pain with buyers. I printed a label and shipped a book same day. I get a message from the person ādid the book ship yetā and I told them yes I dropped it off, but my post office does not scan until the books depart for the next facility. I get a message a few hours later āthis is getting very worrisomeā. I almost lost it, but stayed calm and asked them what the problem was. They said that they had problems in the past, but they themselves were a seller and should not how things are. Needless to say two hours later an update pop up on the tracking and it was already at the next facility.
Buyers expectations have become unrealistic and Amazon is to blame. I am one person selling things like I am sure most people are and buyers and ebay expects you to operate like a Fortune 500 company. My block list grows larger by the day because I just donāt want to deal with unreasonable people anymore.
The world is filled with individuals who are more suited for a cartoon world - Loony Toons & Merrie Melodies first and foremost.
How on earth does someone who sells on eBay have that level of paranoia over shipping speed? Maybe they planned to flip whatever they bought from you?
I think it all started before Amazon even⦠long ago, doing ISP tech support, we had a major outage and the guy on the phone was asking me, how long is it going to be down? I was like, theyāre estimating maybe 24 hours sir. āWell, what am I suppose to do in the meantime?ā
So I responded with⦠āI donāt know sir, maybe go read a book, take a walk, go to a park perhaps?ā And the guy got mad at me and hung up.
People are so glued to their effing devices and online shopping with instant delivery only threw more fuel on the fire that was already in the making!
Done be glued to a device. Unless you are checking out Chu. Then it is ok.
It started with the drive through window. Instant service.
Iām going to start selling soon on eBay. In the listing, do you think itās appropriate to add something along the lines of: āI reserve the right to cancel the transaction based on buyers previous feedback or locationā
Is this complete nonsense or do you have something else in your listings along the same lines? I appreciate honesty so if it sounds stupid, let me know
I wouldnāt put that in there cause you still have to abide by the eBay rules and policies. Read those policies before adding any of your own cause you might be wasting your time.
I would not bother. Like Poyo said unless it is ebay policy it does not mean anything. Canceling can open you up to negative feedback. Learn to ship with extra insurance if needed and if you really donāt feel safe ship with signature confirmation for big value items. Priority and ground shipping have $100 insurance built into to it. You can also go into buyer management and set up some selling guidelines.
Next time that happens just say ādepends on how far away you are and if I can take an extra long breakā.
