I’ll try and call ebay tomorrow (if they’re taking calls on Sunday) and see what they say. I’m fortunate that this situation hasn’t come up for me before considering how many books I’ve sold. I’ll see what they say and move on from there. Just curious what my obligations are. Thanks.
Agree. Chances are it got delivered to the wrong address…and will get corrected within a few days.
Drag this out as long as possible…it’s B.S. they didn’t even contact you to let you know the situation.
Yep, this is the part that’s bothering me. He waited exactly 1 day before opening up a case. Had he contacted me and let me know it didn’t arrive I could’ve contacted USPS to find out what happened, or he could’ve just called them himself. All the tracking information is there. If I couldn’t resolve it I would’ve just given him a refund anyways.
The fact that he got ebay involved almost immediately without contacting me first makes me think he’s just looking for a refund.
This situation just happened to me (Confirmed as delivered but a Case opened)
I was calm and helpful (told him to call his local post office for instance) and told him it still could show up due to post office mess up.
I added pictures to the case showing confirmed delivery, waited the whole thing out, and eventually won the case in about a weeks time.
My item was $175 so I was quite focused on the whole thing.
The whole time he claimed it was stolen from his property which may or may not be true - who knows.
Bottom line is you will win the case with the confirmed delivery
I had a few cases exactly like this, ebay sides with you everytime, just respond with tracking and it will be closed very fast.
If it’s stolen from his property, how is that your fault? Nonsense. So many scammers out there.
Agree with the other posters above, I’ve had it happen a few times and so long as the tracking says it was delivered you’re good.
I always tell them to contact their local USPS as tracking shows delivered and I usually do the same on my end at the post office that it was shipped out from. Then I usually always allow the standard USPS 2 weeks, cause sometimes they just magically show up even after tracking says they already did cause it could have gone to the wrong house (happens all the time, I’ve gotten neighbors mail and I walked it down the street to deliver to them myself).
After two weeks, if nothing and you had insurance on the package, file the complaint and just reimburse the buyer. If the post office does any more work to try and deny, they’ll look for the package or verify it was delivered and the person could be lying as well. But baby steps for sure… if you make it look like you care and trying to get to the bottom of it, it’s only good karma from that point on for you.
Not an eBay headache, just some rampant stupidity or shill-icious shenanigans. This auction is already way up over the highest BIN — which is signed, no less — and still has 3 more days to go.

If you upload the tracking number in the dispute, eBay will side with you every time because the tracking says delivered. It’s the one time eBay actually sides with the seller. Every time it has happened to me, I have uploaded the tracking number and won. No refund if it shows delivered. I can’t be responsible for porch pirates or a misdelivery, and believe me, if you refund them and then try and contact the post office, they won’t give you any money for the claim.
Wow. That book jumped up.
On the resolve/review page there is a button to upload a tracking number or message the buyer. When I click on upload tracking number, the original tracking number is already filled in and is greyed out so it can’t be changed. There is an add additional tracking number, is this what you guys are talking about?
I just messaged the buyer and sent some screenshots with the delivery confirmation. Contacted eBay to see what they would say to make sure. The rep said there’s nothing more for me to do as they will review it. He did ask if I could do a claim with usps. Why would usps reimburse me if it says it’s been delivered? I told him I’m not going to do that as it was a minor sale and that it went through a courier here in Canada before it was handed over to usps. Highly doubt they will approve my claim since it’s been delivered. The rep says that’s ok.
Going to wait and see what eBay says.
I can’t remember exactly, but I do remember I would just cut and paste the tracking number somewhere and hit submit.
Not a headache but got an offer on an item for $175 from $195, so yeah, I took it… while it’s waiting on them to do the final confirmation to accept, someone else swooped in and did the BIN of $195… Love when that happens!
Did you send them the offer, or did you have best offers on?
Because usually once you accept an offer the listing gets taken down.
They messaged with an offer that I then sent officially so doesn’t get taken down while theirs is pending.
Here’s a new one. Buyer doesn’t have an address…eBay says not to ship it…but I’m sure they’ll start pinging me if I don’t ship it in a few days…
Not sure how a sale goes through like this…:
I’d cancel and move on. Comes off as just a effing headache in the making…
Is it not International Shipping program? They are just telling you not to ship to his actual address, but instead ship to their hub. They still tell you where the buyer is located, but they don’t want you shipping to him directly as it will bypass the protections.
