I think that the ebay adult filter has changed. I recently listed an almost Sally Forth set and it got flagged. I have sold two over the past year, so I don’t know what has changed. I have also had a bunch of other books get flagged which seems like it is happening more often.
On another note I have all of my books cross posted on Mercari and I seem to get a lot more views on non big items there than I do on ebay and a lot of times it is by a big amount. I wonder if anyone sees this as well?
I think eBay counts “views” differently than Mercari. I pay more attention to the “likes” as I believe that I truly someone interested on some level.
When comparing eBay to Mercari, views function differently due to the distinct audiences, platform traffic, and user behavior on each app.
Platform Traffic:eBay receives significantly more overall traffic with over 130+ million active buyers, compared to Mercari’s estimated 20+ million users.
Buyer Intent:eBay shoppers use the platform like a search engine, meaning they know exactly what they want. You might get fewer views, but higher conversion rates. Mercari is a mobile-first app with a heavy “browsing” culture. You will often rack up more views and likes, but it may take longer to secure an actual sale.
Search Optimization: Because of eBay’s high-traffic search algorithm, titles and item specifics must be highly detailed to be seen. On Mercari, listings are heavily visual, and buyers rely on the “like” button to track items.
When eBay got rid of their true, “Adult,” section they also got incredibly prudish about comics with sexual content. I’m quite sure they have some AI filter that is trained to cut, “Cherry,” or, “Sally Forth,” comics without hesitation.
I can’t figure their policy out towards “adult” comics. Multiple times I’ve been flagged on Avatar books like Hellina, Pandora, etc., non nude covers…yet there are already active listings from other sellers of the exact same books. I also see nude or NSFW books up for sale all the time with the cover as the main listing photo and nothing covering the naughty bits; how does that pass the standards department lol
Im actually watching 2 copies of Sally Forth #8 (the famous Adam Hughes cover).
They’re both still up on ebay for a couple weeks now?
Definitely Cherry though. Ive had them taken down by ebay multiple times
Buyer purchases set of 4 comics and once delivered messages me stating they want a 50% refund because two of the books were “damaged at the spine by the tape I used that put undue pressure on the books” but the other 2 are in NM condition (I didn’t state a grade in the listing)…how do only 2 books get damaged out of 4 if the tape was wrapped around all 4? Wouldn’t logic dictate all books would have damage in the same area the tape was on if that was the case? And if that was the case every buyer would tell me they have “tape damage” because I literally package everything the same and have zero complaints - bagged and boarded laid cover to cover with tape on the sides/bottom to keep them from sliding when put in a bubble mailer that gets sandwiched by cardboard and then placed in a second mailer. Refund was sent because the seller is always wrong on eBay and was only a whopping $5.50 anyway but really folks?
Why not set auto decline with minimum amount? Or was this in response to an offer you as the seller sent? The second one, as far as i can tell the options are to let the watchers counteroffer or not allow counter offers.
I like to leave offers on because it activates the eBay algorithm. Even when someone sends you a low-ball it tells eBay someone wants to buy your item and eBay will push your listing and make it more visible. It will also send messages to your watchers and people who have clicked on your listing to let them know that someone has made an offer, so they have to act quick before it’s too late.
eBay doesn’t care that someone low balls you, they just want the item sold.
Its funny I had a similar thing happen to me, someone offered $30 on an $80 listing. So I did my usual move and I counteroffered for 79.99. They countered at 69.99 and I accepted. I think what actually happened was the buyer was from the UK and was trying to offer $30GBP (about $57). I never complain about offers no matter how low, sometimes the interaction makes a sale.
I get a lot of comics at really cheap prices. I set just below the top of the market. If a book sits for a while and I am in the book cheap, if I get a low ball offer I will message them. Sometimes I take the offers straightaway if I just want to make space. I pay on average .25-$2.00 for most books I sell. I dig, so I do not mind selling something for 1/2 price if it isn’t a super hot seller but of value.
Luckily, was packaged well and it didn’t pierce the cardboard covering the comic but I’m pretty sure it dented the spine, it doesn’t break color but still…
