eBay Headaches

Did you contact the seller? If it was ground advantage it’s insured.

This didnt happen to me, but to an acquaintance for a shipped comic(s).

I literally could not stop laughing when i saw this picture. One realizes you can never truly say “ive seen it all”.

At least they weren’t soiled…

I mean, it is kind of convenient for wrapping a comic.

“wHy sO sERioUS” written in purple / green color on a thank you card taped on the inside of these diapers. OFC, you would rage out and filed a complaint with eBay. In the process of raging out, you reach out with the comment among the line of "Why da F*%$ would do such a thing, You SDDA*. I would tell you “I just wanna see the world burn…”

wHy sO sERioUS.

What, me serious?

Surely you must be joking…

:upside_down_face:

Long story, short: I see a book I need (not high value) on eBay and favorite it. Seller sends me a 25% off deal with $9 ground advantage shipping so I figure why not? Book arrives today, taped to one piece of cardboard, wrapped in thin bubble wrap in a USPS envelope. Envelope is bent in two places, and was shipped media mail so it had been opened and inspected by USPS and I have to pay an additional $5 COD. Guy doesn’t accept returns.

I send photos to the guy and lay this out. Here’s his reply:

“I’m so sorry about that I’ll provide you a full refund. So the post office destroyed your packages and then charged you more money? They have the worst service. How much did they charge you? I can send you something for that price. Yes I have to charge media mail sometimes because the post office has gone up extremely. The cardboards used cost money the stickers, tape and the mailer used cost money. If I charged full price I wouldn’t be able to sell anything at the incredibly low price I sell stuff. I make sometimes less than a dollar on these transactions. I have to also pay eBay 12% for promotion and then 13% of the final price. So there is no room to make anything. I don’t want to have to charge more money if I can help it. Unfortunately the buyers get upset at the sellers instead of the post office. You would think two pieces of card board and all the stickers saying not to bend and handle with care would be enough but it’s not. Again I’m super sorry :disappointed:, Gemini mailers also cost so much or I would use them instead. Please get back to me and I’ll get you something else. Also I might have an extra book I’ll send it if I do. Thank you for reaching out to me this enables me to be able to make things right.

then he sends “Hey, I can’t refund you until you pick something out because I need to make a label using your address. I think if I pay you then I won’t be able to create the address just let me know. Thank you.

I really am tired of sellers charging a higher shipping rate then trying to sneak media mail through the system. I don’t care about his sob story because he has 38K items sold so he knows what he’s doing. I also have no idea what kind of b.s. he’s pulling about creating an address in order to refund the money. The last thing I want is another poorly packaged item from him.

Drop their name! They sound annoying.

Or add to eBay Seller/Buyer Avoid List

I don’t know if this seller knows better or not, but no one has to do this. Don’t give eBay 25% of your sales! If you do choose to promote, you can go as low as 2%.

If you can’t afford to do it the right way, you’re in the wrong business.

I hate that bullshit line of “oh, I have to do it poorly because of the damn USPS prices.” You are the problem, seller. Not the USPS.

I’ve learned to always check feedback, and if I see anything other than a parade of “seller packaged the item perfectly,” I’m not buying.

You can add a lot of cardboard reinforcement with media mail under 1 lbs. cardboard is free if you pick up boxes from places like Costco or BJs.

And yet those who ship media mail tend to also be the ones who still don’t use much if any reinforcement in their packaging. Because not only are they cheap, but lazy too.

My local PO has a real bug up their @$$ about media mail. They told me somebody once tried to mail a pair of shoes media mail and now they check everything coming and going. I once tried to send an autographed book to my niece as a gift and they flagged it because I had put a birthday card inside the cover. Maybe if other POs checked before they shipped I would have less problems.

That being said I avoid sellers who ship media mail like the plague. When they advertise other shipping but still send media mail it really annoys me.

The guy refunded the original sale but not the extra $5 COD because “it wouldn’t let him unless I bought something else” which is b.s. because other sellers have done it when I called them out. I’ll post his name on the other thread.

I personally use media mail and have never had an issue, maybe my post office is just lazier than others when it comes to checking? Just to be safe I do generally upgrade to Ground or another option with insurance for larger orders and those over $50 but I’ll eat the buck or two difference in price since the buyer paid for media pricing. Cardboard is also free at basically any store since they throw it out after they stock the shelves so there’s really no excuse for the poor packaging that sellers do.

I ground advantage for 99% of orders. Media Mail only for trades, as that fits the definition of no advertising. But, even then, I use a comic mailer and extra cardboard.

My big thing (giggity) with MM is that the PO can inspect it, and that means potential for damage (and obviously up charges).

Granted they can inspect anything they deem warranted…but probability is 100000x higher with MM and no insurance or liability on them if it arrives damaged. Not a situation ai willing put myself into.

Listed a Savage Dragon 280 Cover A which I found today at a shop on eBay for a very decent price. Got an absurdly low offer with a message about how the series sucks. They weren’t mad at the price even or anything, just wanted to message how they think the series is bad and make sure I saw what they said by stating it within offer nobody would accept. I blocked. The name is:

l.d.m.iii

Please note the first letter is a lowercase L as that threw me off at first.
