Hate when sellers get offensive and angry. A more reasonable and kinder approach goes a long way.
Stuff like that happens on Amazon all the timeā¦well, more than it should anyway. 9 times out of ten I can tell when I am getting a comic shipped from an amazon seller. Seems most only know how to use an envelope. then there are the ones that use an envelope with no extra cardboardā¦then the ones that just throw an un-boared comic in a envelope with no added protection.
Iām always amazed when I get a comic in a bubble envelope and nothing elseā¦and the comic arrives unscathed. Like, how?
Ha! Yeah, same here. It is literally a 50/50 chance the comic is going to be destroyed of no damage at all. I see those envelopes and start crossing my fingers!
Well, this is a new one for me. I got a book today where the poly bag was torn on both sides. The seller shipped in a gemini mailer, but the book was taped down and it slid out of the poly bag since it was torn and got the tape stuck to it!
I donāt understand why someone would go through the effort of placing in a nice box, only to leave the book exposed where the poly bag serves no purpose.
That is a shame. No excuse for this. Person cutting corners and this is what happens.
Today I sold a book and 2 hours AFTER I shipped it the buyer sent a cancel request. He said his wife bought him the book already and he didnāt know. I told him it was shipped already and he asked if he could mail it back when it arrives. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? Iām pretty sure buyers remorse isnāt a cause for return but I could be wrong.
It depends if you allowed returns in the eBay listing.
If you did, then he can simply start a return when he receives it. Hopefully you specified that the buyer pays return shipping.
Even if you didnāt, he can simply say itās not as described and start a return.
If he wants to return it, he needs to start the process on eBay so thereās not much you can do until he receives it and decides what he wants to do.
Then itās up to you whether or not to accept the return.
Since you have his message that itās buyers remorse you can use that in case things get escalated to eBay customer support.
Iāve had this happen and I simply send the buyer a message, āThank you but the item has been shipped already. Enjoy your book (or whatever it is)!ā
I do not offer returns, so they would have to open a ticket and purposefully either damage the product, or figure out a way to weasel out of it. Never had either of those two happen so far.
Firm but fair.
Thanks for the replies guys. If it hadnāt been shipped it wouldnāt have been a problem. Hopefully I donāt hear back again lol
I learned long ago that even if you specify no returns allowed, eBay will still side with the buyer. I once had a buyer cancel cause they simply didnāt want the item and I had no returns set in the listing. eBay still allowed them despite my listing says āall sales finalā⦠it was a computer part, not a comic. I asked support, whatās the point in having the option of āno returnsā when you allow them regardless. They just gave me the runaround. I told them that sounded like a bug in their softwareā¦
One thing all eBay sellers need to realize is that there is no such thing as no returns on eBay. You can say whatever you want in your listing and it doesnāt mean anything if someone just says not as described or it arrived damaged. Itās a He Said She Said and eBay generally sides with buyers.
Unless the buyer just admits to blatant fraud or is a known frequent scammer, eBay will just make you take it back and pay for return shipping. If you fight it and (most likely) lose, you run the risk of losing the item as well as the money.
Itās just the cost of doing business on eBay. You should make it as easy as possible for people to return stuff since you donāt want them to damage it out of spite.
That said, I have had two eBay people buy Fortnite comics and then claim their account was hacked and it was an unauthorized purchase after they received the comics and took the codes. They even tried to bypass eBay by calling their credit card company to reverse the charges. In both cases, since I was able to provide tracking showing the comics were delivered and they never bothered to attempt to return them or tell eBay that their accounts were supposedly hacked, eBay sided with me and I eventually won both disputes without having to lose anything.
So, essentially on eBay, a legitimate request for a return should be granted.
I buy and sell I can see it both ways. Sure you want every item to arrive perfect better than pictures perfectly packed. Sometimes they donāt sometimes they do. You got to keep in mind most people dont live and breath comics let alone know how to ship them. Itās not their fault unless itās something expensive and shipped improperly, complaining about a $2 comic damaged in shipping or opening a return means youāre a bad buyer take your $2 loss and move on if you wanted a guaranteed high grade you wouldnāt of bought something with a stock photo for $2.
I see your point, but this is someone who has hundreds of comics listed, not just a casual seller. The total lack of care when packing, and awful condition made me feel totally misled, and their obnoxious response just confirmed that theyāre a shady seller. I might have left it had they responded politely, but frankly their rudeness made me double down. I sell too, and on the few occasions a low value comic arrives with the customer damaged, I just eat the loss and refund them. Thereās no need for the hostile response, particularly as they confirmed the listing was misleading and the comic was damaged even before dispatch.
I just think these sellers need to be held to account, otherwise they could discourage potential buyers, and give all us secondary market sellers a bad reputation.
When it comes to buying and selling comics and something goes wrong I find half the time sellers are to blame and half the time buyers are to blame. Iāve had buyers who are terrible and make life Hell and dealt with sellers who were rude, couldnāt ship to save their lives, and so forth. There are great buyers and sellers out there, but some are just awful.
Yup, for every bad seller out there, thereās a bad buyer as well.
It might be time for another break from selling on ebay. I just had a buyer message me saying the āFlat Rateā shipping I am using is too high. I messaged back feel free to cancel the order if you want. I might cancel it myself, but then they would probably leave me negative feedback.
Wait, they paid and then complained about the shipping? Thatās very strange.
No, they didnāt pay yet. I guess they wanted me to lower the shipping.
