eBay issues

Ha. Yep! I’m usually open to negotiating. I tend to price things with maybe a 20% flexibility range built in. My philosophy, which probably isn’t for all, is that I’d rather sell it for 80% than be stuck with it once the heat dies down. That’s not all the time, of course.

But, package a few books up and offer them to him with a collective discount. I think i’ve successfully done that 3 times with him. But, usually for bigger books than $20. A 50% discount is way too much.

Honestly I do the same. 20% range. I can be a little more flexible if I have sold a bunch of stuff and just want to add a little more money to the Tuesday payment.

So I did file a USPS claim for the empty package however the buyer needs to take the package to USPS for inspection and he has not responded. I know its on $12 bucks but it would nice if ebay could step in.

Wow. I sold a book I listed as damaged at a discount. Said that it was damaged and said what the damage was. Said that’s why I was selling it cheap. Put pictures of the damage in the listing.

Guy buys the book.

Receives the book.

Instantly does a return request saying the book was damaged.

Messaged me saying the book was damaged and sent me pictures of the same damage I put in my listing.

I messaged back saying “hey, I can do the return but I literally said it was damaged, and put pictures of the damage in the listing and that’s why it was cheaper than everyone else”.

I was thinking that he was still going to go through with the return but he admitted he didn’t bother to read the listing or look at the pictures.

I waited.

He ended up dropping the return request.

So in order to make a sale last night, I added a 25% discount to my Nightwing listing if 4 or more books are purchases

Got one sale done. But forgot to turn the sale price off.

This morning I find my listing nearly wiped out of what remained (although I have more copies of most of the books that sold - and will replenish it).

So on one hand I’m like “F&$@!!! I forgot to turn it back!)” And the other hand I’m like “that was awesome!”

They also grabbed a few other books off other separate listings for full asking price. So the discount encouraged more buying.

So in the end I made about $5 profit per book average.….which is pretty good considering that’s generally what I shoot for at a minimum when I’m buying books to flip (I’ll make about $5 off a book I buy for $5 and sell for $20 shipped after fees + shipping).

Had a buyer last night buy two Absolute Martian Manhunter books off eBay. He hit me up for combined shipping. This was about 3 am. At 5 am he requested cancellation for the sale because I hadn’t responded to him yet.

Not sure where he thought I lived but I don’t do a lot of eBay work at 3 am.

Where is the buyer located?

Even at 3am, west coast would be Midnight. Even if you were on the west coast it’s unreasonable.

And even Hawaii it would be 9pm. Most stores are closed after 9pm.

Before canceling it you should respond and ask why he/she felt it was a reasonable expectation for a response on that timeline. Obviously it’s not going to end well, but drag it out and make them feel the pain a bit of being a jerk.

No idea.

If they paid don’t you have the option to ship it?

They hadn’t paid.

Hmmm…so can’t see anything until paid? Wasn’t aware of that.

Seller doesn’t have any listed items for sale where it would provide a zip code?

No. Just says located in the US

You can always see if they ever sold or are selling anything and see city location that way to get idea where they live or at least ship from.

That’s what I basically said.
