You’re probably right, and as an introvert I normally try to avoid putting myself into situations that make me uncomfortable. Most of the time I would just counter offer and not say anything, but I’ve never had to deal with such a low offer before and just didn’t feel comfortable selling to someone I think will be more trouble for me in the future.
This is the only site I have ever signed up with. I respect and appreciate all the info you all provide. Thanks
typically I think 15% - 25% off is a fair offer. A lowball offer would be offering less than ratio on a variant, or offering significantly below FMV. One thing I do not mind is someone sending over a lower offer and saying “would you consider this price?” If someone does that I would actually consider the price.
there are lowballs and then there are people trying to look for a deal. Normally it is in how people handle themselves.
I think it’s an overreaction to get that offended by a strangers low offer. I mean to take the time and send a threatening & unnecessary message is a bit much, no? You’re reaction is worthy of someone trying to clearly scam you with a switcheroo or a scam item not received case. Perhaps you just decline the offer. Or even better yet you can setup your listings to accept or decline automatically along with setting up minimum offers. Someone makes a low offer you don’t even know about it unless you actively seek the info out. Saves time, stress and potential customers. Low offers can be annoying but not block worthy and definitely not worth a public bashing.
I just decline low ball offers and move on without messaging them. If they insist with more offers, that’s when I just block them quietly and move on. I don’t waste my time or breath on fools!
I think the general issue with “lowball offers” is the inherent subjectivity.
5% off - safe to say no percentage of hobbyists would claim that to be lowball
10% probably not also
15%? - maybe a handful think it’s lowball? I dunno
20%? - a bunch will start to think so… maybe half of us?
25%? - a whole bunch more will; but will everyone?
On and on and on.
It’s sorta like CGC grading… it’s all subjective
With a name like “Buttknuckle Bangers” no wonder I am adding this guy to the avoid list. (Mercari seller). Asked what he thought the grade of a book he had was and he went on a tirade about how I was trying to rip him off and that I have no grading skills. Anyway blocked and moved on. His response also said a book riddled with color breaking spine ticks tan pages and more defects was a 7.5.
I quickly bought an extra, “Black Cat Annual 1,” when the news broke about Tiger Division. It was on Mercari and from someone who seems to sell a lot of comics. Named, “Itspicklejoe,” we are way past when they should have shipped and I am angry. I refuse to cancel. I just messaged them they need to either cancel and take the penalty from Mercari or ship after being nice for days with no response.
Update: They canceled on me after my message as I imagined they would. I will watch and see if they relist it at a higher price, proving my suspicions if they do.
I hate sellers like this
Hellions #6 CGC 9.8 Signature Series Game Variant Signed by David Nakayama
Listed as CGC 9.8 Signature series, it is a raw book. I messaged the seller and asked when it would be back from CGC to be an ass.
Ended… “was error in the listing”
Was that your listing or did my message asking when it will be back from the grader cause it to end? lol
That was my listing. I’m secretly selling off comics from your basement so I can have a clear path view of an escape route… you got so many books, you don’t even know what you have anymore!
Sounds like a Lifetime movie. “Trapped in his comic cave.”
I heard it is also a story about forbidden love… during Christmas no less.
anyone here dealt with ebay seller notoriouscomicshop?
well please avoid buying from notoriouscomicshop on ebay. they must be notorious for being dishonest jerks.
pre-ordered mandalorian #1 1:25 variant from them in march for $30 shipped (i’m keenly aware that i should have known the print run would be huge and pre-ordering that book, especially for that price, would be unnecessary).
the description of my pre-order was “Star Wars Mandalorian #1 Concept Art Variant 1:25 Marvel Comics 1st Print 06/22”. the concept art variant ended up being the 1:10, not the 1:25. the book finally gets released and they decide to send me the 1:10, which is listed on their page for $11.89. clearly there’s a mistake.
no mistake, they say, i received the correct item.
wtf? no, i ordered the 1:25 variant and paid you a 1:25 price.
no, you ordered the concept variant and “prices have shifted on all variants as they do after release”.
this mf advertises a 1:25 variant, takes my $30, and then sends me a $12 book and won’t acknowledge any issue whatsoever. and since it was a pre-order from months ago ebay probably can’t do anything. it’s so frustrating being this mad over a matter of $18 but being cheated is being cheated.
If you paid with PayPal probably can still dispute it that way.
That’s sleazy of them.
Question. I won an auction and I’ve tried to pay 4 times. Each time 10min later I’m refunded. Bought and won other items same card no problem. Messaged seller no response. Is he avoiding sending the book because I got it to cheap?
That could be the case but contact customer support first and have them mediate.
Thank u
