Which book has the most?

Never mind. The latest edge of the spider verse #1 is on FOC this weekā€¦I count 9 covers I can seeā€¦

And all of that horrible, horrible paper they print onā€¦what a waste of a waste

Image says Hold my beerā€¦ Ghost Machine one shot has 13 covers which is on FoC 12/18.

But, Ghost Machine 1 is a brand new kick-off thatā€™s 64 pages and is only $4.99. SEE MARVEL! IT CAN BE DONE! Marvel would have easily priced that at $9.99 and printed it on tissue paper.

64 pages from marvel would be $12.99 or $15.99 for the foil cover (and that would be both the cover price and price they charge retailers)

Marvel has bigger payroll while Ghost Machine has a few creators getting paid after Image takes their small share per issue as publisher.

So yes, itā€™s doable but thereā€™s a whole lot more dynamics going on between publishers, etc. We shouldnā€™t act like there isnā€™t because thereā€™s a huge difference in operating costs between Marvel and Image in how they operate and work.

Sounds like Marvel is doing it wrong then.

Depends, we donā€™t know their exact numbers for their operating costs. For all we know theyā€™re banking with all their reboots and saving a crap ton on shittier paperā€¦ One could argue that Image is doing it wrong cause we just simply make assumptions without all the facts.

Image can get a higher quality product out and charge less.

Outside of something illegal (or maybe immoral) by image, why do I care about how Marvel arrives at a higher price point?

But if youā€™re really upset about their price points, boycott any books with a cover price higher than $3.99.

Outside of foil facsimiles, thatā€™s pretty much my MO going forward. Stop the madness. Go back to newsprint paper if need be to keep the price down. Donā€™t need high quality interiors to read a story.

They only do that to any books they know will sell, then eventually bring the rest along

True and with current quality of paper on all comics and modern books in general, room for deterioration is little to none if everyone is keeping their books as mint as possible. Does scarcity only matter? What kind of market is that going to be when everyone has minty books? ex 9.6 to 9.8 differences will they matter? Thoughts?

Less people to pay makes that easier.

I can also debate that Image also puts out 90% garbage books as well. Sure the paper might be nice but 90% of the time the story sucks ballsā€¦ There are times the books that donā€™t suck just vanish and are never completed as well, leaving readers hanging.

Every publisher has their pros and cons, just seems everyone targets Marvel most of the time when thereā€™s problems across the board for all publishers. We also seem to gripe about things we donā€™t have the full picture as well. We should never assume without all the details and facts being provided to us.

Doesnā€™t Image let you own the rights to your comics but if they donā€™t sell you basically donā€™t get paid? Like, you get your comic published and nobody buys it, you still have all the rights in case you get some cash from an option, but you get zero dollars. Work for hire sucks in many ways, but it is a paycheck if you need some scratch right at that time.

Yes, thatā€™s how most indie publishers operate. So yeah Image takes their cut if they decide to publish and then the creators are paidā€¦ which are usually just a handful, sometimes itā€™s just one person. This model should entice creators to put some effort into their works, the better the story and art, the more they print and publish to sell. Sadly, I hate saying this but most of the Image and other indie books just put out total garbage. Itā€™s all hit or miss. Iā€™m being nice when I say itā€™s 1 out of 10 books are worthy of reading or continuing to read when it comes to creator owned indie titlesā€¦ itā€™s probably far less that seem worthy lately.

Ya its not like every creator owned book is good and every Marvel book sucks. All the major publishers have good and bad books.

Image puts out a lot of mediocre to bad books. So does Boom and the other mid major publishers.

Iā€™ve enjoyed one BOOM book in the past two years and that was Eve. I think the only one that stands out besides that one is Many Deaths of Laila Starrā€¦

I guess for me, the number one important thing when it comes to comics is, is the story good and is the art goodā€¦ thatā€™s the primary reason for these things, to create stories with artā€¦
