Funko Heating Up

Funko has literally the worst damn system ever for any product drops. If anyone here got an extra box of fun that they’d be willing to help out a fellow CHU-er with dm me…

Grabbed one. Had $14.47 in target rewards on my app so got it for $5 and change

Did you use your red card? That 5% is always a nice bonus!

Yup. Used my red card to pay

With just a few short days left until SDCC, it seems like the full Funko line-up has been revealed. A few more surprises might trickle in, but here is the shared retailer list that we have so far. But which ones are the ones to get? All of them? Here are the ones that I think you should get vs the ones that you can sit out on.

(As a reminder, the stickers from the actual con will always sell for a higher premium that the shared stickers):

Amazon
I believe both of these are good. Spider-Man 2099 is always hot, and this is the first time that they do him with the white suit.

The House of the Dragon POP might be a sleeper. Game of Thrones fans have pretty much been quiet ever since the show ended. A lackluster ending and no chance of the final two books in sight quickly made GoT fade from the spotlight. With new showrunners, can House of the Dragon recapture that spark? I would think so.

EE
Entertainment Earth POPs can be tough to figure out. Since they’re easier to get, they don’t really heat up. There was a Jaws POP that is now a grail for most collectors, and the other ones that I can remember are Monty Python and Shaun of the Dead.

South Park POPs do eventually rise to $100, but it takes a long while. Scarab was an ok character but didn’t resonate with a ton of people. If you do decide to get these, I would say to flip them for $30 right away.

Walmart
Getting exclusives from Walmart are always a pain! And this year, it looks like it’ll be worse because all of these POPs have potential.

Super Sonic is a no-brainer. Both Sonic movies have been very well received and caused old Sonic POPs to shoot up. Plus, this one glows in the dark.

America Chavez will have several POPs released, but this will be the first SDCC exclusive. Yes, get it!

Parks and Rec still has a good cult fan base, so this POP is a no brainer.

The only iffy one is the Purge Trooper. It looks great, but there are so many troopers in Star Wars, and they’re always hard to move. If you get the trooper, you might have to sit on it until Star Wars fever starts up again with Mando season 3. The other ones, for sure get them.

Funko Web
Notorious for crashing on con release day, you might still have a chance to get some of these once initial orders go through.

Sodas are starting to get more popular simply because people like gambling. I’ve learned that it’s easier to sell a sealed Soda than an opened one (even if it’s the chase). If you go for the Sodas, flip them right away.

Ted Lasso should be a priority, and I would say he would be the first to sell out. The Ted Lasso fanbase is growing as more and more people discover this amazing show. There is a third season on the way, and this is the first POP for the show.

Donatello as the Black Ranger is another must have. Two successful IPs merged into one? Hell yeah!

Cho-cho from Boruto is a maybe. I don’t see it selling out as Boruto fans are not the same ones as Naruto fans. You could flip this quickly for $30 if you decided to get it.

Peacemaker was a wildly popular show, and everyone is waiting for season 2. However, Wondercon had a Peacemaker POP earlier, and it hasn’t really heated up. Maybe season 2 will make all Peacemaker POPs shoot up? If you get it, tuck it away.

I would think that the Miss Minutes POP is also a must have. A glow in the dark jumbo POP? Just watch out for shipping. Bigger POPs can get damaged a heck of lot easier.

Same thing for the statue doll from Squid Games. A few characters from Squid Games have already been released, but they’re still hovering around $15. However, season 2 is around the corner, and we know when a new season becomes the talk of the town, the POPs can shoot up. Definitely get this one.

The Demogorgon is a no brainer. Those who doubted Stranger Things were blown away from Season 4. The success of the new season made all of the old POPs shoot up again. You can flip it right away or hold on to it until Season 5. Either way, you’re making money. However, this one could be bundled with the Loungefly bag. Usually when they reveal a POP with a Loungefly bag, that means that it’ll be sold as a package, and it usually means that it’ll be limited to 3k pieces. If does end up being all of those things, then this will become an instant grail.

The SDCC birds, eh. Those don’t usually do good. They’ve made so many and nobody cares. You can try to sell them for $30 if you’re first to market, but I wouldn’t add them to my cart the first time (in case something else sells out). If you really want them, you can do a 2nd order and add them there.

Boxlunch
Boxlunch only gets 1 exclusive, but it’s a good one. MHA will be talked about 20 years from now in the same way DBZ and Naruto get talked about.

FYE
The most annoying online store gets an absolute must! That Charmander is a guaranteed heat magnet! All Pokemon exclusives do really well, and this is the first Metallic Pokemon. Get as many as you can.

Queen Historia is also a really good one. Attack on Titan has wrapped up in manga form, and the anime will most likely wrap up next year. Get it and hold it for the end.

Gamestop
Not sure how I feel about the skateboard. I never tried flipping one, and I usually ignore them. If you dig MHA and collect boards, then this could be for you.

A flocked Black Krrsantan? Yes! Yes! Yes! No brainer for Funko and Star Wars fans. Hell, even fans that don’t fit into either of those big categories still fell in love with Black Krrsantan.

Next, we have Serpentor. G.I. Joe POPs do ok. I haven’t seen any that have blown up recently. That is most likely due to a lack of a film or popular TV series. However, for those that vend at toy shows, you’ll for sure be able to sell one.

We get another jumbo POP with Unicron. This POP looks bad ass. Transformers POPs tend to rise steadily over time. They don’t get crazy expensive, but some can hit $50 or more. This POP looks like it’ll join those ranks. Definitely try to get one.

The Penguin on his Ducky! Yes! This is a no-brainer. This POP will be sought out by many fans.

Goku holding a steering wheel. DBZ had many (many) filler episodes as the anime would quickly catch up to the manga. Over time, the filler episodes have grown fondly on fans, and what was once a random episode of Goku and Piccolo getting their driver’s license right before the Android Saga kicked off is now looked on as fun and memeful episode. This one might take a while to heat up, but if you vend at anime shows, you’ll have no problem selling it.

Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen is a no brainer! In fact, it’s such a no brainer, it should be your #1 priority! If you’re at SDCC and managed to get into the Funko lottery, this should be your goal! Jujutsu Kaisen POPs are about to come out, but this exclusive will be the first one of the entire series to hit the market. Jujutsu Kaisen has blown up this past year, and it continues to get more and more fans as the dubs come out. This is the next big anime, so get as many as you can.

Target
Cassian is a must for Star Wars fans. Diego Luna returns as Cassian, and the first episode will drop at the end of next month. You’ll be able to sell him come September.

Everyone was eagerly awaiting Jonathan Majors’ debut as Kang. Instead, we got a version of Kang as He Who Remains. While some fans felt it was a waste of a debut, others felt it was good set up into the eventual Kang character. This might end up being a hold. Once Majors returns as Kang, this will heat up.

Hugsy is a must for Friends fans. This is the first POP that they make that’s not based on a character from the show. It’s based on Joey’s random plushy that came out towards the end of the series. Still, it’s the first con exclusive, and it’s a perfect match to your Joey POP (of which they’ve made 3 already).

Toy Tokyo
Toy Tokyo can be frustrating with their drops. Sometimes they sell them in bundles, and other times, you’ll have to rely on resellers to get what you want. They do have Leonardo as the Blue Ranger, and that is a POP that Turtles and Rangers fans will need.

There have been several He-Man POPs already, and they usually tend to do good. You can flip it right away to a MOTU fan, or hold on to it until next year.

Hot Topic
Joining FYE as one of the most frustrating places to get POPs, Hot Topic always gets a decent selection when it comes to shared exclusives.

Bambi is a for sure POP. The voice actor has been hitting small shows recently, so if you happen to sell at a show where he’s at, you’ll make some quick money. In fact, you might even sell it to his handlers. If you rather wait to sell it online, it’ll hit $100 by the end of next year. Disney POPs always heat up.

Not the first Silk POP, but the first time she’s a con exclusive, and the first time she’s in her original suit. Yes, comic fans will recognize that Silk’s original suit was just her covered in webbing. Grab a few and store them away.

Enmu is another no brainer. The first con exclusive for Demon Slayer. Demon Slayer continues to sell well, and the 2nd wave of POPs comes out this fall. This will become a grail.

Surprisingly, there haven’t been that many Starfire POPs. There’s only a handful, and they’re all based on her Teen Titans Go appearance. This will be the first time that we have a Starfire based on the comics. This will for sure sell well to the Starfire fans.

Whew, and that’s everyone! I think there are a lot of good options this time. You’ll never know by going to the Funko forums as everyone always complains that the previous years were better, lol. You know how that goes. But I think we have a good mix of quick flips and long-term holds here. If you’re a vendor that goes to local shows, you’ll be able to sell them all, no problem. If you’re a POP speculator, you’ll be sitting on some grails within 1 - 2 years.

Also, Funko keeps adding new POPs every day. Before I hit Reply on this, they announced an Anastasia POP. She will be a Diamond edition. No word on who she’ll be shared with, but this is another no-brainer as Anastasia is a cult classic of a film.

I’ll definitely get one of those!

@thetinhat is this where exclusives are going to show up on Funko Shop?

https://www.funko.com/shop-all?filter:exclusivity=Convention_Exclusives&page:on=1

Or is there a special page/portal i’m missing?

Yes, the SDCC Funko Web exclusives will be on their page. On the day of, the page should direct to a special “Opening Soon” page. Then, it’ll be a mad scramble to refresh and add everything to your cart. Fun times!

I’d rather watch paint dry on a wall than to waste my time on something that I likely won’t be able to buy or obtain.

If you don’t want to go through tomorrow’s trouble, this website has them up for preorder at market value.

How reliable are these guys?

Never used them, but people in the comments say that they’re good

I don’t collect pops but I would think the Krrsantan would be a good one to get
