Great Cover Art

I attended a Sci-Fi/comic show at SUNY Stonybrook in the mid-80s. (called ICON)
They gave out this Moonshadow #2, a Sword of the Swashbucklers comic, and another comic that escapes me (Timespirits maybe?); just for attending the show.

I can remember thinking at that time, “hey, I can sell these for money maybe”. Flash forward 40 years and I still have this comic as well as Sword of the Swashbucklers.

Art by Jon J. Muth, Bolton, Kaluta, etc… changes my entire perspective now. It was a big nothing burger in the mid-80’s, and even though it’s not worth much now, the work and artistry in this cover and the comic itself is extraordinary.

Nothing digital either. All hand drawn and painted/colored.

Jon J. Muth, Bolton, Kaluta, some heavy weights right there.

Jeff Dekal is really becoming one of my favourite cover artists, first that Absolute Wonder Woman cover and then this Power Girl #15

I’m an Avengers West Coast fan. I have 99% of vols 1-3. But damn if this new vol 4 doesn’t have fantastic covers. Issue 1 is great, but 3 is even better:

Crap. I’m missing 2 issues. That’s it. Vols 1-3 and all annuals. Gotta get those last 2, sell the whole damn lot, then start collecting them again.

been a fan of his ever since I saw the Forgive me Father variant cover he did

Damn it. 3rd print cover for AB. Now I might need this one, too.

A couple of covers I like & are worth a look imo.
Clearly anything Spears is red hot, but I have a love of Return of the Living Dead anyway.

I’m actually not a big Frison fan (I certainly appreciate her talent) as I find her work too similar. Because of that, I sort of like this creepy one.

I pointed out the Spears Return of the Living Dead #1 a while ago. This is going to be hot and the covers match the series well. I am excited for the John Russo zombieverse to make it to comics. For those not in the know, George Romero gets all the credit for zombies but Russo’s work on Night of the Living Dead often doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Russo and Romero had an argument over the direction the movies should take causing Russo to leave. Russo retained the right to the title “living dead” which caused Romero to change the titles to simply “dead”. (Night of the Living Dead, then Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead) where as Russo put out Return of the Living Dead and its sequels. All essentially fall in the same universe.

@Anthony Yes…thank you for pointing out the series as I would not have had that #1 on my radar at all otherwise!!! The #1 is fantastic!!!

She’s a Punk Rock Girl.

I love the Dead Milkmen.

I grew up in the Baltimore area but in the DC punk scene. Dead Milkmen were from Philly and would come down often. I was even one pals with Joe Jack Talcum. They would send me stickers, posters, and demos and stuff. They played at the 9:30 Club once and my friend Colleen and I went shopping at record stores with them. Good times man.
