His Ultimate Fallout 4 A Good Investement?

I hit Cosmic Comix today. Got an Antman #1 Hiphop variant (sells for about $50-70) for $10. Got a Thor 4 Silver Surfer Black 4 and some other stuff. Walked out at $30.

So there’s a Moderns Heating Up on EBay thread on the CGC forums where this sale was brought up by myself. Just because UF4 is a hot book and it’s been discussed for awhile. I wanted to let you know that some of the people over there are claiming it’s shill bidding. There “proof” is that the winning bidder is a new account that bid 3 times on the auction. I post as Corona Smith over there and here’s a link to the topic. I don’t think anything fishy went on.

That’s funny. It sold and I already shipped it. I know who the person I sold it to is (not personally)
Lol, I was like who can buy books like that
and found out he is a movie director and he directed a big comic movie fairly recently
I thought that was pretty cool. There were only two people that bid in last seconds. Idk. I do know I’m over halfway to an AF15 kind of stoked.

I sold some stuff to The Simpson’s producer a while back. Put a BART Simpson on the packaging as a subtle nod to knowing who he was.

That’s so trippy. A year ago I sold a ton of underground comics and some issues of an old 70’s adult magazine titled, “Swingle,” to someone who lived in a ritzy sounding part of LA. They bought everything I had listed on eBay at a point that fit that bilI. Googled them and they were a producer on various television shows at points in the past and I guess now collect vintage erotica and comics in that vein. I won’t name them to protect their privacy and honestly don’t even really remember their name. I just thought they clearly know how to spend their money on good stuff!

At the CGC forum I notice they refuse to acknowledge the viability of anything made after the Bronze age. Someone literally once said if your best comics are Hulk 181, your collection is tacky; if you don’t even have that, you might as well collect Garfield and Dagwood comics.

I’m not going so far as to say they refuse to accept comics made after a time when all the superheroes were white, but since the median age there is likely about 55, it wouldn’t be that far off

I’m not so sure it is about race as it is value and maybe rarity
A lot of snobs out there that started collecting spider-man when he wasn’t even third fiddle in Siver Age comic popularity. They seem to forget when they started collecting their tacky Spider-man and Avengers comics from the 1960’s they were looked down upon the Golden Age collectors.

Sounds like the usual thing of an older generation looking down on what’s new and popular. “Radio ruins kids—wait, it’s TV—Let’s say video-games—no, it’s the internet!”

I’m a semi-old collector but when the market talks I listen more often than not. I also have no problem being happy for a collector who’s grail book may not be Detective #27. If a collector’s personal grail happens to be My Little Pony #1 newsstand edition than great! Glad they got it! It doesn’t have to be a ground breaking book. If a collector is able to obtain an AF #15 well, I am just as happy for them.

This book is currently doing $450-$600 raw for the first print. There’s been others below $450 recently, but just today a raw sold for $650+ shipped.

Sold some of mine waaaaay too early at $60ish, but have four remaining plus a couple second prints (both versions). If you own this book, are you sitting? I believe it’s only going to get bigger over the coming years so I don’t plan on selling any of my copies. Just wondering what fellow CHUers thoughts are currently for this book? Is 1K raw not too far away? I say yes over the next 1-2 years or possibly sooner.

*Edited for correct hyperlink

Yes. I only have one first print and one second print. The first temptation will be when Miles makes his live action big screen debut.

I can’t even imagine the big screen debut. It’s going to be insane.

As recently as Feb 27th a sealed first print sold for $709 w/47 bids. Into the Spider-Verse 2 will no doubt push it further. I’m not even going to attempt guessing what a live action MCU movie will do.

The book, despite it being ubiquitous, is a modern grail, imo.
I will be sitting on my only UFO4 9.8 until retirement -comic life or real life.
I have 4 of the Pichelli 2nd prints that I plan on selling as the market for this book hits it high marks, as time progresses.

I sold so many UF4 (1:25, 9.8, even a newsstand) for a fraction of current price. It pains me. Luckily, I kept the best ones. Like this. I paid $1,500 which totally blew out my budget at the time. But my sons loves Miles Morales and I got this for him. Many of my modern keys are based on the characters my son loves. I plan on giving to my son when he gets older.

Ps. I recommend never selling these if you have them. Not unless a worst case scenario where you need money.

I have 1 copy of 1st print, 2nd print, and 2nd print variant. All are going to CGC next month and will be holds. These are only going to increase and like a few have already stated above
this is a true modern grail. “Grail” sometimes gets thrown around to loosely
but this is an actual one.

There are a group of characters in the modern age that will be the new keys. Due to availability and the modern knowledge of what a 1st Batman, iron man, Wolverine, etc. is worth, they may not go that high in value. But Miles Morales, kamela khan 1st appearances will be modern grails. They may be more that will get up there and stay there(Amadeus cho and america come to mind too) But those 2 stick out. Bought my 1st Miles as soon as I got back into comics in 2015 ($8-very proud of that in retrospect). I knew that would be the book. I asked my 6 year old the other day who was Spider-Man- he said Miles Morales. He was Miles for Halloween, not peter Parker. Miles is this generations Spider-Man.
