I’ve heard a lot of great things about these two arcs. I’ll take you up on this, especially with Gore being the villain in Love and Thunder I’d like to be familiar with him. Thor is actually the one Marvel series I have on pull right now (I don’t count Star Wars or Alien as Marvel, they’re their own beast.) I’ve never been a Thor reader before (or damn near anything Marvel) but during the pandemic I was taking part in Facebook sales that my LCS was having (HAVE to support local business!) and I asked an associate to point me the direction a great Cosmic story and he picked up Thor 1,3, & 4 (Devourer King) and said “I think you’ll like this”. I’ve been reading Thor since.
I’m a sucker for Stegman! I love traditional pencils!
The extent of my knowledge of the Inhumans is that they are part of the Marvel Universe, Black Bolt is their king, and Medusa has long red hair. That is it. How much back story does one need to know to dive into this series?
Yeah, It read great just alone.
You don’t need any knowledge. I didn’t know about the inhumans until I read that series. Anything you need to know is in the story.
Caught up on my reading pile yesterday and was surprised how much I enjoyed Redemption from Christa Faust/Mike Deodato/AWA. The elevator pitch is it’s a post-apocalyptic True Grit. You’ve seen this story before, but it’s a would make a fun popcorn movie.
The back issue binge for yesterday was Strange Fruit by Mark Waid/J.G. Jones/Boom. It’s in intense page turning read that basically boils down to Black Superman lands in 1927 Klu Klux Klan Mississippi. It is problematic with white creators doing such an intense Black story (see attached article) but I couldn’t put it down and would love to see this story on the big screen.
I remember reading the first two or so issues of, “Strange Fruit,” and then getting annoyed at how delayed it was and forgetting to read the rest. Now that it is done I should give it a full read!
Nice House on the Lake #1, good read but weird. Has anyone read The Woods by Tynion? It has very similar vibes. Anyone who liked this issue may like The Woods. Will be seeing where this goes.
Nuclear Family #4, getting weird. The art has completely fell off a cliff.
Tynion definitely got me hooked on another of his books.
That’s a bummer. I saw the art quality start to drop from 1 to 3…
That book started okay and then just got suckier each and every issue. That’s my main issue with Tynion on his indie books, they tend to start off okay but it’s like he is just making the crap up as he’s going along. He needs to really think about the beginning, middle and end and then his stories will probably be better.
Aren’t all writers basically making crap up as they go along?
Yes and no. Some writers sketch out the beginning and end, then wing it as they fill in the rest. Some plot out everything in the World, overall plot, etc. before writing the actual stuff. Some just start writing and see where it goes–making crap up as they go along. That’s my interpretation at least?
READS FROM THIS WEEK YEA OR NAY
Nice House on the Lake #1 - YEA
Basilisk #1 - NAY
Crush & Lobo #1 - YEA
Nocterra #4 - YEA
DC Horror Presents The Conjuring The Lover #1 - YEA
Out of Body #1 - NAY
That’s exactly how it is I think from writer to writer. It’s all made up but some put actual thought into the story… some just yeah, have no idea even while they’re writing it…
It’s real bad, looked like the artist mailed it in for this issue.
I was enjoying the series but felt myself losing interest and being shocked at how bad the art was in #3. Now I’m hearing #4 is worse and I’m nervous to read it. May stop checking the series out at all soon…
Nocterra is maybe the best current new series IMO. Really think this is a home run title right now.
It is really good. Reminds me of when I was heavily digging Snyder’s stuff back during his, “Detective Comics,” days.
Just read Silver City #1 by Aftershock comics. I liked it. Has a bit of a grunge/edgy feel that I usually don’t care for, but it works well for the setting. I think it can be an extremely interesting series if they go more in depth about the city, how it operates, and the people within. It’s an interesting concept, looking forward to the next issue.
Anyone ever read a series called Isola? About some knight traveling with her queen thats turned into a tiger. decent fantasy stuff but the art by Karl Kerschl is super good
