God damn, issue 5 was dark AF. Now I also understand the cover to King Spawn 2.
A lot of the early issues of Spawn not written by McFarlane are actually decent. He got a lot of guest writers because I hate to say it, McFarlane is by no means a great writer… I wouldn’t even classify him as fair… he should stick to drawing or running his toy business…
@BatmanFan Now I’m even more excited for you to read #8 and the others I mentioned lol.
One of the cool things about our hobby…simply taking enjoyment from when others like something you are fond of too!
Yeah. That’s like the one Spawn story I remember to this day out of the hundred issues I bought. So dark.
Gaiman is the one who really opened up the Spawn Universe for McFarlane… I know they had their beef but McFarlane should really be kissing Gaiman’s ass… Gaiman did more for Spawn in one issue than almost the entire run since…
I second this opinion.
Just finished issues 8 & 9 of Spawn. So far. Really liking the series. Kinda wish Kincaid got punished… sick basted. Issue 9 was really good. I have a floppy copy in my collection that I picked up as a piece of history but never read it before. There is color rub. Now I want a nicer one to go with the Compendium.
I admit that Moore & Gaiman’s writing is better, but credit to Todd for trail blazing, sticking to what he loves, and creating a really cool character. I feel the personal feelings that Todd puts in his Spawn character, especially the love of his wife. If you haven’t watched the Like Hell I Won’t documentary, I recommend that you check it out at your leisure.
Anyone reading Terry Moore’s Serial? It is 7 issues in and getting very good.
I read the first issue and saw potential but figured I’d wait for the TPB or such. I should check it out for sure again then?
I am a Terry Moore fan and am reading Serial it is very good
I’m reading The Archers Quest (Green Arrow 16-21) by Brad Meltzer on a recommendation from a friend. It’s really good!
Terry Moore rarely disappoints with his writing. Maybe since he seems to do one title/project at a time, that’s why he pushes a superior product over those who got a billion titles going on at the same time.
I am a huge Terry Moore fan. I think part of the quality of his work is that her gets to act as both writer and artist. He knows what he wants it to look and sound like and can covey that better on his own. I love his work!
I just finished Out #1. The WW II horror story. Pretty good. Great art. Great story. Compelling storyline. Has an eerie feel to it like John Carpenters The Thing. Recommend.
I was sorting through comics and found that one, looked interesting. Maybe I’ll get to actually read comics again one day
I just finished reading Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazon. I am not sure how this origin story of the Amazons will impact the main one, but it’s a very intriguing and promising start with new characters and character designs. Now, talking about the elephant in the room, the ART by Phil Jimenez is tremendous, overwhelming and occasionally terrifying to say the least. More than half of the book are gasp-worthy splash pages. The collective effort put into them is insane. You got to own this book physically.
Just finished issue #2 of The Human Target by Tom King and Greg Smallwood. Looks like we’re going to see a lot of the Justice League International throughout this series. If you like that late '50s/early '60s mid-mod aesthetic, you’ll love what Smallwood is doing. Gorgeous art.
I loved the first issue. I’ll read the second ASAP!
Happy Hill. Awsome story. Awsome artwork/coloring. Will read issue #2. Recommend.
I just came here to recommend this and then I saw your post. I just picked up Happy Hill 1 from Comixtribe and I absolutely love it! I thought I was the only one reading this so I’m pleasantly surprised to see someone else enjoying this as much as I am.
Just so happen to pick this up by chance. Comic shop only had one copy on shelf, I flipped through it and loved the artwork so I picked it up. After reading it, I’m going to tell my shop to get me the rest of this series. It’s a 5 issue mini. Story is a bit of X-files meets Twin Peaks. Something weird and supernatural is happening in the small town of Happy Hill. There’s a murder in the opening scenes and we get to meet a pair of reporters coming into town to investigate the story of the Wudsman. Somehow they get a sense that the town is hiding something. Beautiful artwork and engaging characters. Looking to pick up the rest of the series.
