I Like What I'm Reading (not spec'ing, but like actually reading)!

Comixtribe makes enjoyable and weird titles. I ordered, “Happy Hill,” from one of my shops and shall read it once I have it!

This is the first time of heard of Comixtribe. I will have to check out their other titles and see what my LCS can get me. The comic is very well presented, printed on nice heavy stock paper with a thick glossy cover. The artwork with the beautiful coloring as mentioned really pops. I really like the small town horror genre so this title is right up my alley.

I had Happy Hill in my picks… Poyo’s Spec & Picks for January 12th, 2022 – COMICSHEATINGUP

Looks like a recent copy sold for $15.50 on ebay too… could see some love if people seek it out to read!

Happy Hill has potential based off issue #1. Story is engaging and has some legs to it. I like the X-Files/Twin Peaks angle someone posted. Characters remind me of horror/comedy joint personalities which makes future casting for it interesting if it did anything. It has a bit of the Autumnal horror angle with the small town backstory, and alittle bit of that smart comedy you would see in a Mel Brooks movie. Let’s see where it goes.

So I started reading the current Pacheco/Perez run of Spider-Woman based on speccy spoilers from @Anthony. Then I went back and read mthr back issues and loved it. It’s currently on my pull list and I am working on collecting the back issues to make a full run. Call me crazy, but I like having physical copies of books / runs that I enjoy. I know it takes up space, but oh well.

What I really like about the Spider-Woman book is that it is pretty accessible. She has only had just over 100 issues (113??) In her entire history (not including things like Avengers and what not) so it isn’t as daunting to jump into the character. Pacheco seems to building her character and supporting cast up, which is also great.

Also, I know we’re only one issue deep, but I enjoyed Ben Reilly: Spider-Man. Also another character that I’m not overly familiar with but at least with him I know the broad strokes. Not on my pull list yet, but I’ll check it out for a few more issues to see if it is worth adding as Cap / Iron Man & Arkham City: Order of the World is about to finish up over the next couple months.

@SpideyHunter516 what are your thoughts on the Ben Reilly book?

I’ve just finished reading the Jimmy Olsen series that won the Eisner Award last year.

At the time of the award I thought it was an odd decision, but having read it, I think it is a great series.

Funny, cleverly written and lots of respectful nods to some of the classic Olsen stories of the Bronze age. If you have any affinity with the Superman Family, I think it is well worth a read.

The backup stories in Batman have been really good through the latter part of Tynion’s run. In particular, I enjoyed the Batgirls backup story maybe more than the actual main story (Fear State was fine, but didn’t like bowl me over or anything–Miracle Molly and the Unsanity Collective was probably the best part). So… I’ve got Batgirls on pull now. The first issue is really funny, and the second follows it up well. This is a great team (the like, actual Batgirls and the creative team). The writing is both funny and feels really natural (as in, it doesn’t feel manufactured or trying to be something it’s not).

The fight with Babs over the scooters vs the car they “borrowed” (and has a tape deck stuck on “I’m a believer”… the Smash Mouth version cringe) is just fabulous.

I put it in competition with Nightwing for best current Bat-book. And I might even just like the style of the storytelling better in Batgirls? I love Tom Taylor, but yeah, I so far like it that much.

Batgirls has been great and it is nice to see Spoiler and Cassandra Cain get the spotlight! For me, Becky Cloonan is hit or miss but she is so far batting 1.000 with Batgirls.

I’m also really enjoying Spider-Woman… I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned that. Karla Pacheco is down right hilarious.

Star Wars: Crimson Reign has been good too! I know it’s hard not to spec on Star Wars, but these two issues so far are already better than all of WotBH.

I agree Crimson Reign is better that War. The biggest problem with War was all the crossovers, most of which were completely unnecessary.

If it weren’t for @drunkwooky i would have no clue what the reading order would be :joy:

Sweet god that reading order took years off my life.

I’m slacking on my Crimson Reign reading order and checklist but hope to get back up to date on that tomorrow.

I was able to read Land of the Living Gods #1 and I enjoyed it so far. The spirits and the plant are very interesting. The art is very pleasing as well. I didn’t think I would like the book based on the solicit, so I didn’t get any copies.

A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1-4 very slow and immersive story. I have to read this in 4 issue chunks going forward.

I sure do enjoy Strange Academy. I thought this week’s issue was great. Really excited to see where these characters and the Academy ends up.
Also happy to see Gaslamp continue to have a role. Appears he’s not only powerful, but has been a player in the magic world for some time.

This has been a good series. It drug a little bit in the middle, but overall enjoyable. As a bonus its been collectible as well. Id still buy it even if the series had no heat.

I have really been enjoying Daisy from Dark Horse and Adventureman from Image. Both are worth the read.

Read the new We Live Black and White books last night…they were pretty decent…setting up for a larger story I think. Only thing I was a little disappointed with was they kinda just threw you into everything instead of leading off with where they ended it, or at least somewhere around where they ended it…

I’m excited for issue 2 at the very least, so that’s positive!
