Yeah. It did. It’s a slow burn story but the second arc kicked off last issue. I like it.
I’ve been collecting Undiscovered Country issues For the last year but haven’t read until a day or two ago. It got interesting. Still got some catching up to do, but it’s a good read. Next story to play catch up on- Killadelphia.
Hey guys last month we had a few people here reading Happy Hill by Comixtribe. Has anyone gotten the second issue? I had my LCS put this on my pull and it was scheduled to be released 2 weeks ago but my LCS hasn’t got it yet. Has it been released?
I know Im late to this party, but, could you expand on that thought? How did Gaiman’s one issue ‘open up the Universe for McFarlane’?
McFarlane wrote every issue in the first 150 issues, except for #'s 8-11, 16-20. But, yes, there were 6 different writers for those 9 issues that Todd didn’t write (Moore x1, Miller x1, Sims x1, Gaiman x1, Morrison x3, Grossberg x2). They were all stand alone stories.
Should have asked this 9 months ago…
Here, read this: Alan Moore brings Satire and Subtext to Spawn: Writers Writing Spawn, Part 1 | Sequart Organization and then Neil Gaiman Defines the Spawnverse: Writers Writing Spawn, Part 2 | Sequart Organization
I read that long ago and it was a pretty good write up in how these guest writers really opened the door for Spawn because quite frankly, McFarlane needs to stick to drawing, his writing is sub par even to this day. He needs to just give up and realize he’ll never be a good writer. I’ve even given his later Spawn issues a go at reading, it’s just atrocious. The narration is like a 8 year old writing it when I read it most of the time.
I dont think you’re going to get the creator/writer of one of most successful Indie comics of all time to give up his book that he has worked on for the last 30+ years because you don’t like his writing. You gave too much credit to those articles, imo. Id be curious to know when the last time was that you read Spawn #8 or #9, or any other run of Spawn, in the last 30 years.
Im sorry, but its laughable how much you loathe him, his comic, and his success. I digress.
I think it’s laughable how much you praise him probably because he’s only Canadian like you… I digress.
McFarlane is Canadian? I did not actually realize that.
Yes and it took him over 700 or so art submissions before some nut job finally gave him a chance… Probably only did it cause they got tired of his ass. He’s like Andy Dufresne… they finally caved cause they just couldn’t take it any more!
I don’t need to read them again. The early issues with guest writers were cool, most of McFarlane’s are still garbage because some just can’t admit the guy sucks at writing comics and honestly, most of his art sucks too. It’s just noisy art to hide all the imperfections he makes in his drawings. I think he’s overrated in comparison to most artists. Can’t even compare him to most writers because he’s pretty much at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to writers.
Not sure why my opinion on McFarlane bothers you so much, it’s as if you’re offended yourself. You seem to really go on the defense every time I criticize the guy…
IMO, McFarlane is a poor writer. Mixed verb tenses. Painfully expositional narrative.
But his art, although technically average, is very pleasing to the eye, especially from his ASM heyday. There’s an energy to it that captivated many, many fans.
That’s the only stuff I enjoyed from McFarlane, the early 300s run he did for ASM.
I’m really liking WTFPFH. #3 was creepy and left me anxious to read #4.
It seems to have some hints of The Warriors and even a little Bloodsucking Freaks if you are familiar.
Can’t wait to read #4. The #5 Cover D with the Carnies on the cover is awesome.
If anyone happens to have a #1 with vinyl they’d like to trade please let me know. Quite excited to have a second read with the records!
Just finished Wytches. This was fantastic. Great story. Great art. Apparently volume two is planned for this fall, and they’re working on adapting for the big screen/TV. Best mini I’ve read in a while. If you like horror, this is great.
The A covers are strong, but the variants are really strong, too. I rarely see any of these in the wild. Got lucky finding the whole set of As for cheap.
Amazon has the trade for like $8.50, too.
Agree - top notch story. top top notch
Wytches is one of my favorites.
anybody have recommendations for books tim seeley has worked on?
really enjoyed his writing in spider-gwen: gwenverse #1. i dont mind so much the proliferation of multi-verse stories, mashup characters, incarnations of gwen stacy (“gwencarnations”) as long as the writing is really fun, and tim seeley’s is great in this one.
