Had a chance to read the new “Hyde Street” #8… really good.
We get to meet a new, interesting resident.
The art is so incredible on this comic.
I’ll keep beating the dead horse. It’s fun to have comic books that I actually can’t wait to read the next issues.
The A covers have been really strong in this whole series, but I’m digging this Hotz variant for #8.
Adding my two cents with not the newest of titles but recently read Beware the Eye of Odin - just a fun little fantasy mini - and Bliss, both from Image. Bliss was outstanding, same team that made Coyotes, beautiful to look at and a story that might get you in the feels depending on your family dynamics. Neither probably spec worthy but highly enjoyable.
Not a current or new series, but I recently purchased a 17 issue run (#35-#52) of the third volume of Astro City (Vertigo). These later issues were tougher to find and I got a great deal on the lot.
I’ve been slowly reading 2-3 each day and I forgot just what a great series this was from Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson. Beautiful Alex Ross cover artwork and short arcs (1-3 issues). So many great characters and succinct stories. As a dog owner and lover, issues #47 & #48 with G-Dog are fabulous if you get a chance to read it.
Highly recommended and very inexpensive to get the original floppies or TPBs.
started reading martian manhunter. pleasant surprise with great art.
The absolute one? It has fantastic art but I don’t really understand what’s going on. I still dig it though.
I finally bought and read Everything Dead & Dying, and now I get the buzz. Perfect first issue. Sort of the standard zombie story, but written with so much heart and perfectly told.
My gosh Hyde Street just keeps getting better and better!
And…it is creating soo man interesting potential for spinn off!
Best read on the market imo…followed closely by Redcoat and Geiger.
Have any of you even The Cabin in the woods or 13 Ghosts?
People have clamored for movies or stories regarding the other gosts that are contained or the monsters on the chalkboard?
Hyde Street is sort of creating that set up BUT they sound it
So damn good!!!
Hyde Street is great, but these delays with Ghost Machine books are problematic. Gotta keep the momentum up.
I’m curious what you all think of the new books lately from a story perspective.
White Sky was interesting. Post-apocalyptic ghosts of some sort that start people on fire. I’m getting the next couple to see where the story goes. B
Dorc: I can definitely see the appeal here. The characters, world, and concept are really great, and they are drawn in a fun, vibrant way. Issue 1 was rushed and didn’t develop the story at all, but that happens with issue 1s often. B
Bleeding Hearts: This was my winner for Feb. Maxx meets zombies. Sure, it’s the concept of Warm Bodies again, but done in a really fun way. They did far more character development here than Dorc or White Sky. A+
End of Life: This was a total dud in my book. A concept that’s been done before. Characters that seem kinda boring. The dialog felt lacking originality. D
The Thing on the Doorstep: This one wasn’t spec’d at all. The entire issue was setup, and while this is squarely in my wheel house, I didn’t love it and ditched by pull of issue 2. Not terrible by any means, just nothing overly exciting either. C+
Speaking of Hyde Street, the Rahzzah cover for #11 is pretty great:
I read White Sky, I agree with the assessment, was good read but seemed a typical apocalyptical story, I’ll try the next one as well.
D’orc I sold before I could even read it, so can’t even comment on it. No interest in dipping, spec-wise, into this one any further.
Thanks for the reviews. Always looking for a new read.
I didn’t read Dorc. Went I hr the door too quickly but will read the reprint.
I liked white sky. Very Walking Dead.
Bleeding Hearts 2. A+
This book has great art, characters are coming together. Strong pacing. Heart. Love it.
Dorc 2? It’s fine.
I read tigress island. It was ok. Seemed very 1989’s Cinemax late night movie plot. Art style makes it fun though.
Tigress Island is kind of funny. Ill probably get the rest. And ya Bleeding Hearts is a 10/10.
Batwoman 1: I don’t think I’ve ever read a Batwoman issue before. The story is interesting enough, but the interior art really did nothing for me. Kinda took the life out of the story.
Now, this Corona cover. A+
told ya the art sucked ![]()
Corona did covers for all the new DC Next Level books this week, if anyone thinks it’s worth putting a set together.
Ordained #1 was really good. I’m not sure if I’ve read a Bad Idea book before, but this was good. Paper quality was dreadful, but the story and art were fantastic. It’s very John Wick. But, I can see how this will be a movie. I think #2 is out, so I’ll have to track that down.
