Nice pickups for the price!
I picked up a magazine, the latest issue of the Dynamite Terminator series and 16 old 90’s bad girl books for $20 at a place that blows out comics around the corner from my office.
The kicker…. The magazine is in the niche category of collecting that I love.
Also, it has been a personal grail for me.
It is none other than……
It is probably a 9.2-9.4 copy.
Also in the stack, which I am glad I grabbed because I had no idea. Paid .50 cents
Rob Liefeld cover but doing some research this was signed by the artist Rikki Rockett (drummer for Poison the 80’s hair metal band)
Wow…you felt you had to explain what Poison was…? Are we really that old?
“Yo’ mama don’t dance, and you daddy don’t rock and roll!!”
Talk dirty to meeeeeeeeeeeee
Yes…
100% we are
After this past weekend…definitely…
Couple of inexpensive DC silver age slabs ran through one of my LCS that I had to grab.
First silver age cover and appearance of the Joker. This fits nicely in my plans to grab as many pre-#200 Batman slabs
Lower grade copy of first appearance of Queen Bee
The slab market is still hurting and there are fire sales to be had.
Some more grabs from the same collection that came in that I got the slabs from
These two bring me very close to having every Freddy Krueger comic
Early Erik Larson work. Hard to find black cover that doesn’t usually hold up.
Dave Stevens and Steve Ditko together
I have been putting together an early Adam Hughes collection. Have not ran across this one before but recognized it right away.
I have mentioned over and over I am picking up media tie ins. This is a 90’s video game comic for the fighting game Killer Instinct if you don’t know.
And speaking of fighting games, two more from the grand daddy of them all Mortal Kombat
FATALITY! Fun stuff!
I have been buying newer keys in higher to mid grades and breaking them out and selling them for almost double what I paid for in the slab. The comic slab market is not good at all. Trading card slabs on the other hand are through the roof.
Between the small percentage of potential buyers that will purchase a slab, and the recent banana situation, slabs have definitely (and finally) taken a significant hit in value and in saleability.
While if 100% see what you’re saying about comic slabs, I’m seeing and hearing that card slabs are suffering as well. Are you referring to a particular card slab market?
Non in particular, just going off what I see in person at shops and shows with both sports cards and TCG’s.
Did you guys hear of CGC’s new bulk submission tier? Saw Bronzeville Comics making a video about it. Surprised that the usual talking heads Swagglehaus and others haven’t mentioned it.
Cliffs, 50 book submission at $24 each before discount. Prescreen rejection fee $5 per book instead of $9.
This won’t have any effect on those people that submits 10 books a year or even people that don’t submit at all I don’t think. It’s not like these people are going to start to submit now 50 books to save a few bucks. What this tells me is that submissions from dealers at CGC is WAY down and CGC is trying to target them to submit more books. Since we all know CGC hates to lower prices.
Interesting, did they say if CGC ships all 50 books back to you in one box or in two boxes?
No mention
Grading is slowly dying. The market is changing and little by little, it’s affecting dealer. 5 years from now, grading will be a very small subset and 90% of that will be only key books from before 1990.
Yup, that would be me.
Anyone submitting books to CGC for 9.8 prescreen is just damaging new books. Submissions should stop 100% until they fix the issue.
Obviously people don’t care if the book is damaged, as long and the label says 9.8. Ignorance is bliss.
