I went to a shop in Hagerstown Maryland yesterday. Was a few minutes from where I was spending the night. I didn’t get anything but man the sights I saw were pretty amazing. Town is an old industrial town sitting overlooking the mountains. It in itself was beautiful. I saw two pickup trucks crashed Into each other on a side street and the guys arguing with a women who was behind them as they didn’t want her calling the police but she wanted them to move. Saw a meth-head woman walking the street with a giant stuffed bear like you would win at a carnival, she looked like she was out of her mind and had nowhere to go. Finally made it to the shop. Everything looked sun faded and dingy. After a few minutes the nice older lady working there and the shop owner told me they had to close early because they had to go, so I bounced without dropping a dime. Usually I like to buy something as a show of support but I high tallied it out of the town.
Yeah dude. Definitely sketchy. I went to Hagerstown to buy some early Avengers books a little over a year ago and it was bad. I barely looked at the comics and just paid and rolled out.
At first I thought “you can see mountains from Maryland? Isn’t it like Florida where majority of the state is barely above sea level?
Anyway, looked at a map and see it’s on the panhandle part…looks like 4 states are within a few miles of each other…like cross over them on short stretch of highway (MD, PA, VA and WV).
So this came up as part of my research, so I had to click on it after reading your blurb.

I lived in Hagerstown for about 10 years. Your description sounds spot on.
From the sounds of things, they should change their name to Haggardstown.
it’s just like most places. Downtowns sketchy and it has nice areas. Though it’s also has a nice memory of the first corpse I’ve seen in public. I loved living down there compared to northern New York.
Was worth the stop today. $40 out the door. Love it when they say “We’re having a sale”.

No. Couple of people hit me up with spots close to there I didn’t get out to. We went camping Thursday-Sunday. I had to get out one day and just spend some time looking for comics. Came back after just the one spot.
I have edited my original post to remove an insensitive comment. I apologize to all for the original comment as I found out the owner has cancer. I can admit when I was wrong and that wasn’t cool on my part. Anyway, sorry for the original comment about the owner.
We can’t go into every situation knowing exactly what is in front of us even if we are looking right at it. There is no way you could have know the challenge that was facing the owner. You were frustrated for being rushed out of the store with no explanation and you vented. It happens. A good person does exactly what you did; admit to a mistake and apologize. That is something unfortunately many people can’t muster the courage to do. No one will hold anything against you. You did the right thing that also happens to be the classy thing.
