Bunch of 1:25 to 1:100 sketch variants…mostly DC…all $1 each. Nothing too exciting, but hoping I can get $5 and up from them each.
Sigh, more new boxes of stuff to look through… but every book you pick gets price-checked. Sure takes the fun out of looking. I found the whole Spider-verse story from Slott’s ASM (1-6 + epilogue), but it got market-priced and so I passed. There seem to be a bunch of other neat books in the boxes, but I’m sure not interested in being surprised on price again.
Smh that sucks when they do that. Definitely takes the fun out of searching
I wouldn’t go to a comic shop that did that. I wouldn’t give them my hard earned money. . Christ I don’t go to mine because the guy rarely talks. Like, I say hi and if I’m lucky he grunts at me. I’m sure 99% of others wouldn’t visit a shop that did that.
I can imagine checkout is beyond tedious!? This is pure laziness on the owners part and should be checked by not going there and putting the literal pos out of business.
What’s the name and location of this cesspool? They have an online presence? It goes beyond taking the fun out of it but wastes a lot of time. All your time spent browsing could be for nothing. Let alone standing there while they price the books.
I can see a few of those slipping by an owner but not all of those. I know great finds happen all the time but this seems a bit to good to be true. I need more details on this hapless b@stard. Very nice haul, very nice. Ranging from Copper to Modern you’d think they’d of known some of what they had.
They don’t have an internet (comic) presence. And this is just for the new collection he bought like a week ago. Every other book in the place other than this new stuff isn’t treated the same way, just the new boxes. It feels like sometime in the last couple of months some switch flipped.
In general the guy is great though, chatty and always orders my requests on time and regularly gives me discounts–and it’s cheap for a pull list (20% no matter size of list, 40% off rack books on Tuesdays). But these new books… man it. is. annoying.
So just new collections coming in are priced that way? My anger has dissipated as that’s more than reasonable request. Sounds like you’re getting an early look.
That’s fair! It’s very possible that I’m just not used to the way LCSs work (haven’t been collecting that long), and “previewing” a new collection that hasn’t been priced might be the norm and in that case I rescind my annoyance.
This is the same place that gave me the one per store Seven Secrets #1 thank you version below cover… because I was the only person who ordered the book and Boom! was nice enough to send it to them. Neither of us had any idea, a priori, that it was special. So, I guess it all evens out.
Was able to snag this from my LCS today, whole set of Hell Arisen 1st prints including the 25 cents special.
This is now my second Hell Arisen 3, neither are 9.8s but perhaps this one could fetch 9.4-9.6
Thank you @davidbitterbaum ! I am freaking stoked beyond belief!
One of the big reasons why is because, without getting too into the weeds, Punchline is the first character in all of comics that I can say I have been with since the beginning.
Long and short of it is my father (whom I love, this is not a dig at him) saw comics as a waste of time rather than an escape or something fun to do in my free time. I never really got an allowance as a kid to buy my own, and as a young adult I lived very hand-to-mouth on a shoestring budget in overpriced California. Besides the ONE comic my dad bought me at Safeway in the mid-90s (Batman) I haven’t really been able to read and collect until about a year-ish ago, as I am more financially stable.
I guess I did end up getting into the weeds, ha! I’ll stop here, for now atleast.
We all have those characters who are special to us, seems you found yours!
Was travelling & found a comic shop. I hate to admit, I had a headache, just wasn’t in the mood for an extensive dig session but still found some gems in $2 boxes. Was especially pleased with the Black Panther Prologue…it had slipped my mind & has become somewhat pricey.
I did pay going rate on the Clone Wars books though give or take. Paid $60 for the 3. I believe that entire series is undervalued so I’ll pay what I have to when I find them. Given the good deals on the others, I also didn’t mind giving cash to the store. Everything was in near mint shape as well.
Found a cool Spider-Geddon 0 1:25 in an easy 9.4/9.6 condition for $15. Looks to be going for 3-4X that. Now, to flip or keep… quite the dilemma.
Found the 1:10 Department of Truth for cover price, the other 4 were also cover price but it was buy 3 get 1 free.
Found a stash of Star Wars comics I didn’t know my LCS had. I didn’t see any heavy hitters, looked like it had been picked over a few months back…but still KotOR 31 for $10 and Star Wars 81 (Boba escapes the Sarlacc pit) in VF for $25 were not bad finds. And I love these Star Wars Tales photo covers from the early issues in the series…at $5.99 cover price they are hard to find in NM shape.
More in SW Tales #4 in the Mando thread later…
They’re having a Black Friday sale next weekend…going back for more then.
Star Wars #81 has been heating up little by little the past couple of months…May be one to keep an eye out for… Price might be ready to explode depending on how the Madalorian handles Boba Fett moving forward. Good find!
I have had it on my saved searches for over a year…waiting for the right price for an actual NM copy for less than $40…and since I wanted to read it passed on slabbed copies in NM/NM+ that were less than $100. But yes as soon as Boba made a cameo this season the price quadruples overnight…and that pretty much put an end to my search as now raw NMs go for $80. 9.8 direct just sold for $500. 9.6 for $325.
Same its showing a steady increase.
