I bought a restored ASM silver age comic. CGC has it as slight restoration (c-1). I just wanted a nice copy to read for a decent price. Will crack it out when I get it and share the results.

There are probably a few hundred if not a thousand of 9.8 UF4 that can cross over to a 9.9.

Since CGC has moved the goalposts, my 9.6s could probably be 9.8 or even 9.9 now, but resubmitting means possible banana damage. Lovely.

All 9.9s are scams. If we cracked a 9.9 and 10 9.8 the graders would not be able to tell the difference

Unless or until they come up with actual standardized guidelines that are created by neutral 3rd party type group for grading standards, all slabs are just the opinion of the slab company. Most of us are pretty intelligent folks and collectors who can likely grade these things ourselves and probably be more accurate than the current “paid” opinions out there.

Waiting for someone to take one for the team and send in 10s and get back 9.8a. Have CGC crack it out…would they even dare?! Seems like a liability on their side.
No one is going to do that anyway….because EVERYONE knows it a scam (or CGC gate keeps) except those that pay the outrageous prices for 9.9/10.0.

So there’s a PSA 10 of Uncanny X-Men coming up for Auction. There are no CGC 9.9s or 10s.
So this will sort of be a benchmark for where PSA 10s sit. Dave is totally “pumping” this auction by making comparisons of what may be considered a “hand picked” CgC 9.8 that looks more like a 9.4….if that. It looks like the cert number starts in 211, so it was graded a while back…when maybe CGC grading was a little “tighter.”
Either way, I think this video say more about why you shouldn’t trust the grade on the label.
The book already is up past $7000. I think a 9.8 CGC goes for $500. And I think Dave’s numbers do make sense that a CGC 9.9 is likely a $10k book if one were to come to market.
That being said, this auction is just one of many PSA books as it’s part of a PSA only auction they’re organizing. So regardless of the pumping it may be a litmus test. So should be an interesting watch.
Yes, Dave’s father is a head grader at PSA…and I’m sure Dave has more interest than most to push PSA books. So keep that in mind. Im just trying to look at the facts as I see them.
It would be better if Dave grabbed more 266 9.8s than just one bad grade…there certainly are plenty to choose from. Or pull up a CBCS 9.8.
Dave should admit this isn’t a 9.8…he himself says he knows how to grade, been doing it for decades. So should challenge him on whether this is really a “fair” comparison in his opinion…see what he chooses…pumping this book or his credibility.
I also find he rambles and repeats himself about 5+ times in his video…as opposed to Swagglehaus who can get the same points across intelligently in about 1/5 the time if not 1/10. One of the reasons I don’t watch a lot of Dave’s videos.
Anyway, I’m sure we’ll here more about this after the weekend when the sales have been completed.

I think this time we have to have some “rules” so that people can bid 1 cent or $1 above someone else. Need to be separated by at least $100k, as which I think is fair because it has already broached $1.8M with buyer’s premium.

FYI - This appears to be a “new” copy recently found in a family’s collection. I think there are 5 others in this lot from that’s stash…there was also a Detective 27 8.0 recently added to the census….and some are speculating maybe they’re holding that one back for now…doesn’t appear to be a CPR.
