I hear ya. My wife gave me a label printer for x-mad last year. And I buy the comic mailers. Really speeds things up.
The time consuming part now Is keeping track of sales, entering them into a spreadsheet for taxes. And getting to the post regularly is tough if your commute times don’t align with their open hours.
Prices are already dropping. I’ve noticed a lot of stuff that I wanted from a few months ago have dropped significantly in price. Good time to pick up stuff I want for my PC. Around Christmas time would be a good time to pick stuff up that you want.
Prices are dropping but seems like most people are still not putting out high grade silver/bronze age books out on the market (maybe it my luck)… and some dealer/seller seems to be stuck/fixated on 2021 prices…For example, some dealer I seen they are trying to sell UF4 CGC 9.8 still at 3K-3.5K when clearly the book is approx 2.2K in this current market.
I was just thinking about this yesterday. Specifically, I was wondering when the official “big holiday drip” is going to be seen across the board. I haven’t seen any drops on the books I’m looking to pick up yet, but your words here have boosted my hope of drops before December.
Most of the drop I seen are between 1975 to 2022. Anything before its not necessary getting a hard drop across the whole lot. Most severe drops I seen tends to be variant lol, go figs.
If you guys have a good shop in your area make sure you have a good relationship with them. I’m at my shop every week, mainly to hang out and get new books. I get most of the hot books this way.
What I’ve been noticing lately is a rash of people coming in to sell their old comic collection. It has always been this way but it has really amped up the last few months. People are bringing in old Journey into Mysteries, early Fantastic Four, ASM etc. And that’s only on the 1 day of the week I’m there.
I was there one day and there was one youngish guy (early 30s?) bringing in his comics saying how he doesn’t know how he’s going to pay his bills at the end of this month. It’s sad to see so if you’re buying these books you’ll be helping them out too. With everything going up in price and the cost of living going way up, people will be unloading their stuff they don’t deem essential. Right now the best thing to do is to stay liquid, save your money and have them on hand ready when something you really want drops and becomes available.
One of the last places I’d sell my collection would be a shop. I’m looking for the biggest return so it’s eBay for me. I used to have a good relationship with one of my LCS owners John from Pegasus but he’s rarely open and doesn’t order new releases.
Yeah for us we generally know not to sell your comics at shops, unfortunately there are the general public that doesn’t know where to go. I’ve been there as a kid. They don’t know the value of their collection and a lot of the greedy owners gives them pennies on the dollar.
There’s also people who just need the cash right now as well. They can’t wait on sales from eBay. It’s the reason we have pawn shops, you take the loss but you get the cash right away…
I’ve bought small collections on Facebook and sometimes am alarmed how someone’s selling good stuff for cheap. I even ask why and they’ll often say they want it gone quick for the cash they need and don’t wanna wait for it stuff sell at a higher price/they’re moving/some reason the comics need to be gone quick even if they could make a lot more if they took the time to slowly sell stuff than as a bulk deal.
People always think the sky is falling on collectibles the months of September and October and picks right back up in November and December. Same thing happens with tourism those months.
Jim Comics was mostly bashing store exclusives. He says don’t pay eBay prices. I never understood the complaints about people that sell comic books. People sell lots of stuff online.
