It seems like I find out about local small comic shows after they have occurred near me. So I’m creating a thread for those who would like to share any announcements of upcoming shows. The more press, the more success they should become.
I’ll star out with a few shows this weekend in Southern New England.
New Haven Comic Spectacular. They’ve been doing this show for many years. Usually Mike DeCarlo makes an appearance (not this time though).
$5 admission. kids 10 & under free.
I feel like I should go to this one and check it out…may have to check in with the boss, though.
Boxborough, MA. Saturday & Sunday.
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Greater Toronto Area)
We get 2 or 3 of these a year in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), comic books only! No need for the frills
Small finds at a local comic book show. All were $5 each.
I have these slabbed in 9.8…and I don’t know why (I didn’t pay much for them). It is one of my favorite marvel stories and I think my thought process was they were good investments due to their connection to the industry infinity saga…but hindsight is there really is nothing “key worthy” about them. So grabbed these two so I can read it once again, and going to put my 9.8s up for sale.
The Thing looked to be a 9.8 candidate…but after taking it out it has the slightest tear (< 1/8) on the back free edge. Grabbed 34 as a reader because I have a slabbed copy.
Just some low numbered Batman Adventures newsstand copies. Penguin and Joker covers.
Grabbed first Barton as Ronin because I like the cover. USM 5 is the first time in his classic costume. Plus I like the cover. Just PC copies for now.
Two high grade GI Joe books with 1st appearances. 32 is 32 has multiples (Blowtorch, Lady Jaye, etc). 50 is first Zarana.
At one point I was going to grab a low grade FF 29, forrr watcher cover. Interest has wavered, so grabbed this reprint instead so I can read the story. The X-men was just a cheap grab for a future flip. Needs a press as there are numerous indents.
For a small show CT Collecticon had a decent amount of raw books, silver and gold age. I was just looking for small finds for the PC. Most had their slabs priced way too high to even bother asking about, though. “Make me sell it to you” prices…
Next weekend is the New Haven Comic and Collectible Spectacular.
I don’t think I posted my finds from the last show I went to before Thanksgiving. I think I spent about $50 total.
Got these for cover. Been wanting these covers featuring the murder droids for a while (for the PC).
I’ll grab a high grade sonic retailer incentive for $3 any day. The other was $3 as well (future flip).
Just a few books for the PC. I have ASM 134 on a 9.4, but want to read the story…so for $3 grabbed MT 113. The MCP 77 is what the cover to next weeks Ultimate Universe One Shot spoiler cover is homaging.
Going to start looking out for high grade turtles for cheap prices…I liked this cover.
And yea, the Simpsons book has the card insert! $12.
Best find of the day was the Iron Man 150. Was part of a bundle for $22 (with the Turtles and Astonishing X-men). Mid grade but presents nice.
The X-men is a lower grade, but I wanted a copy to go with my French reprint (below - picked up in Montreal earlier this year). I think I paid no more than $12.
I sold that same Simpsons a few months back for like $40 in terrible condition. It was a duplicate copy. Now I am searching everywhere for it again in dollar boxes.
My latest grabs at the New Haven Comic and Collectible Spectacular this past weekend. All books were $1.
Early Batman New 52 / Talon / Court of Owls. I’m pretty sure I have issues 4 and 6 sitting around. I’d like to have the entire first arc for the PC (I sold my newsstand copy of issue 1 for $100 a few years back…need a reader copy).
Star Trek I’m putting together my DC run 1-56. Iron Fist 1 is the 1st Orson Randal (WW2 Iron Fist). A great character, they should not have killed off…maybe he’ll show up in the MCU some day.
Marvel Action is first A.I.M.erica (Skin in Rivals game). Hercules is just a cheap spec book.
First Rat Catcher for $1. Also like this Alan Davis Detective cover. The story is a classic (Reprinted in the Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told). A bit of a premonition of things to come as well, given Batman reflects on exposing Jason to violent crime and has been gravely wounded.
First Angela is Marvel continuity. Cheap spec book. The Frankenstein book in NM was a nice find considering it’s catching a little heat from the Creature Commandos series.
Lastly a few minor key Batman books. Not in the best shape, but should be able to flip them. The Batman Beyond book is a lower print B cover of the first Elaina Grayson. And I’ve been wondering when I’d come across a Red Hood 25…been searching for months. I actually have my own NM copies for the PC, so these are flips.
So all together $12 plus $5 admission fee. The Frankenstein #3 alone might cover the cost.
I did find a Jeff Verse book, but that was later at an LcS: so altogether a pretty decent outing.
At their peak, I found these two issues along with #4 and #5 at a HPB for a few bucks, turned around and sold them on eBay for around $130, was a great flip at the time.
