He helped me with JSC, Artgerm and a few others that didn’t charge. He did pay for a ghost rider to be signed and sketched.
I didn’t pay for those… Kuder was awesome, did those free of charge!
I thought he was gonna charge though, since he did 3 of them but it also took him around 1-2 minutes per quick sketch on those blanks.
I don’t pay for autographs. I don’t get paying a celebrity to sign a photo of themselves.
I do pay for sketches or for writers or artists to sign a comic they created. It is like they are signing their hard work, I’ll pay for that.
I get why they charge nowadays… years ago people got autographs to put in an autograph book or on something else to keep for themselves. Now people get autographs especially at cons to make money. So ya I’d charge as well.
I forgot he did them for free. That was a money maker there.
Sketches I’ll pay. If it’s just them signing, heck no, never.
How is a photo any different? They had to work to look good in that picture! These are Polaroids selfies they’re taking! Although I’d pay to see that.
And that is why they charge, ultimately. Thanks for ruining it for everyone!!
I don’t have a specific reason for why I have this rule. I just don’t wanna pay someone for a picture they signed. I just don’t pay for autographs. The exception is when it’s a comic book someone worked on. I guess if an actor signed a DVD case of a movie they were in I would be OK with that?
In the late 90’s my buddy was laid up with a broken back. He was bored so he started mailing letters to numerous Movie Stars and Sports Stars with a black and white photo and prepaid self-addressed envelope. The letter was a mass printed “I am your biggest Fan” form letter asking for them to sign it.
8 out of 10 would and for no charge.
He slapped those up on eBay, which was in its infancy at this time, between $50 - $100 each. He made a killing and kept at it for a few years.
I do believe I gave one or even two of them away for free here in a giveaway on CHU…
If another artists jumps off a bridge, do all others need to follow?
I applaud Kuder for his generosity and not charging me for his minute sketches to make someone’s visit to the convention more memorable rather than just all about the money. I don’t remember most of the things I had to dish out money for at the conventions but out of them all, that one stands out probably due to Kuder just being awesome person and creator.
And they charge more to sign funkos because they sell for more than a signed photo. Some signers charge less if it’s personalized because they are less likely to sell it. The market ruined cheap autograph prices, but I still collect autographs. However, I am not a fan of paying $45 for a nobody.
Oh my goodness! For a minute I thought you were discussing the actual topic. Not surprised
Recent pickup:
He should have done an acetate overlay homage.
No. But if one jumps into a pile of money they will follow.
I can’t wait to walk up to his table at NYCC!! I’m sure he’s still the same as you remember him…doing minute sketches for free.
That would be epic.
Not for you, you want them to make money so I’ve given him a heads up that you wanna pay for that autograph and sketch!
