Hit up the LCS at open for the first time in a couple of years. 6 people waiting to get in, which is not insignificant for this shop.
In my hand, I had one copy each of D’Orc and DC All In Special 3rd print. I put them back. No Nectar on the shelves at all and forgot to look for Narco. Telephone rang a couple of times but didn’t hear the conversations.
Remembered why I don’t worry about Wednesday’s anymore
Don’t know how much advertising helps but I will say a few comic sites I visited had ads for Nectar prominently featured before the book was solicited and I believe the writer is a decent selling author outside of comics so may have a built in fan base there.
My LCS had about 6 copies of Nectar one per customer, no holding. Grabbed one and sold it within 20 minutes after reading the story (which wasn’t too bad honestly). There was 3 left when I checked out. They had two copies of Narco #1 which I passed on and 10 or so DC All-In Special which I did buy a copy. There had a limit on D’orc as well but there were plenty of copies, so I passed on that one as well. There was a record amount of people there on open though. It is kinda chaotic on Wednesday’s now, but mostly the chatter was about the final issue of DC KO interestingly enough.
Little sidebar discussion here. I noticed this book on FOc this past week…”new” character (Shinigami) featured on the covers of this issue.
I think the character is from the animated series (2012) , but may have first appeared in the comics in issue 13 or 14 of the current run. There’s another more character in those issues too (Ujigami?).
Anyway…she’s featured on just about ever cover of issue 17, so I didn’t see the point in focusing on any as none qualify as stand alone “first cover.” High ratios would likely rule. Screw that.
But curious when this character first appeared in a comic.
Does anyone here pick up TMNTs and has issues 13 & 14 of the current series?
Something worth keeping an eye on….should this issue have people suddenly paying her attention and looking backwards upon release…seem like she may become more featured near term.
You have to remember that selling comics on eBay is relatively easy and can be cheap money. There are a ton of sites, this one included, that give out free information. Someone would just have to take the initiative to go and buy the books and sell them. Now, back in the last height of flipping/spec there were a ton of people into it. Things dried up and they all disappeared, no longer lurking the shops. Card people got into it. So they all left. But now I do velvet we are seeing an uptick again in people flipping. Sites guide them to buy certain books and flip.
Shit. The forum gets between 15,000 and 20,000 views on any given day, by mostly non members. The main site gets up to 12-15,000 views on a good day. That is a lot of eyes on free information.
And like @D-Rog preaches, first Cover after what some call a “cameo” instead of a “full” type of appearance usually wins over the collectors… did I get that right @D-Rog ?
Actually you know what… I am gonna work on a flow chart that might help people decide when to buy based on appearances, if it’s Marvel or DC or Indie, etc…
