It’s funny this was brought up, perfect timing. I was at a show yesterday (full report to come in the near future).
I’m digging in a small set up of boxes of essentially modern books. Guy next me is prolly about 40, and seems to know about comics. Knew enough to tell me he collects “What if” books and he just needs a few, holler if I see any, etc. He was purposefully digging not randomly browsing.

The seller had a display of modern books behind him on shelves. Among them was the Giant Sized X-Men facsimile. The collector asked the seller, how much you have on the Giant Sized X-men to which he responded “I think it’s $10–let me check for you” (he had all his prices on the back of the comic. Really nice, very old man, had to have been 80.

He had it marked on the back at $15, but told the guy he could have it at $10 since he miss spoke with the $10.

Buyer says “Wow, I’ve always wanted that book, do you have anymore?” “That’s an amazing deal, why is it so cheap?”

Seller (and me)…“That’s a reprint”.

Buyer: “Oh, nm, I never knew they made reprints of that”.

Seller and Me: eye contact, and back to our business.

Oh yea, some experienced dealer is going to have the 1st print of Giant Sized X-men for $10…

  :joy: :joy:

“Do you have any more?”

Lol. The first thing you ask after getting what you believe is the deal of the century. As if ripping this guy off once isn’t enough.

Back again…different seller.

I suggest reporting it. If enough people do maybe they’ll do something.

problem is he’s not misrepresenting it. gives 2021 as release date. its stupid and scummy, but the fault rest on the buyers. he started it at .99

I’m in agreement with Kevin. It’s unfortunate. The seller knows what they are doing to avoid being labeled as a “scammer” in that listing. For the buyers, it’s going to be one of those “too good to be true” lessons.

He doesn’t mention it’s a facsimile or reprint anywhere

The Title of the comic book is:
Werewolf by Night #32 Facsimile Edition

That is not the Title of the comic in the Title Field of the listing.

P.S. I love love love the “Send to CGC!!”. Just add that much more excitement to the listing for someone who is uniformed. Scum and therefore blocked

“Send to CGC!” ← that line is what I don’t agree with. That’s the deception I think. Plenty of characters to spell out “Facsimile” since that should be part of the Title as it’s presented that way in Previews and just about every known retailer site.

These sellers are not mentioning in hopes to lure in a uneducated or impulse buyer. That’s when I have issues. They can list the ERA and Year but that text is so small and can easily be overlooked.

Those fields, imo, are essentially the ‘fine print’ of any given listing. Nobody reads the fine print on anything. The sellers put that in the fine print, while excluding that information anywhere else, in order to save their ass when their deceit is called out.

Only a dishonest fool would think that this is acceptable behavior in our hobby, or in any walk of life.

I really wish everyone that thinks this scam is OK would list their seller names.

To truly know the motive of the sellers leaving out “facsimile” in the title or descriptions, one should judge them in how they react when someone gets the book in hand, realizes it’s not the real deal and asks for a refund. If the seller gets upset and tells them they must pay or keep rather than simply accept the return/refund, that will tell you their true motives.

Me personally I don’t sell facsimiles or reprints. Cause I could have it in big huge letters FACSIMILE EDITION REPRINT NOT THE ORIGINAL and people would still buy it or argue that they didn’t see it. Of course there’s also shady people who withhold that info
