Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 1)

People buy expensive things on credit cards all the time. I don’t use credit any more as much as possible, but people do, its the same thing, the feeling of want is greater than the actuality of need.

Yeah very true, average American now is in debt of around 8k (that’s not counting mortgage, school and other necessity type debts) last report I read (was a few years ago) and almost 80% of Americans can’t even afford a 1k emergency… if that tells you anything about Americans buying things they can’t afford.

I guess the problem is, thats not on Jim as I do not feel like he is trying to trick people into buying, just like when we talk about comics we aren’t saying buy everything we are talking about. But some people do because some one else “more in the know” talks about it.

I buy everything on my Credit Card and pay it off monthly. That’s why most of my flights are free cause I just generate a crap ton of points…

Yes, but you have the means to do it and the control to pay it off as opposed to pissing it away on stereos for the car. I am debt free other than my house and car. Not digging that whole again.

Exactly, if people buy because “someone” just mentions or talks about it, that’s on them. That’s their choice. I never blamed JimComics for people rushing out to buy whatever book he’s talked about… you can only blame yourself if you buy high…

Same here brother… I have a mortgage and well, I don’t really consider that debt since I own more than 80% of the equity in my home.

Would you rather him say “PAY crazy Ebay prices” ?

Seriously. EVERYONE says “dont pay crazy ebay prices”. Its the speculators motto.

The thing is lately for the hot books, it seems that either someone reaches the LCS virtually before me or the price for the books cool off by the time I get my hands on the physical comic. I then get caught with books where the value is pretty much at the same level as what I paid for it or just a little higher but not worth the trouble to list. The above keeps happening more and more often lately.

I have seen people talk about eBay prices and say, well this is a level you can still buy in at. Um… No, horse is out of the barn most of the time.

This is why I’ve moved away from TFAW almost entirely at this point. It just took so long to get books. Any heat on 95% of them was long gone by the time books arrived. And, for the books I wanted to read, I hated being an issue behind all the time.

Plus, my LCS connected to League of Comic Geeks, and it’s fantastic. Now I just add what I want each week there, and they pull the random issues for me. Helped me get things like the Mando cover for Darth Vader. I’d highly recommend talking your shop into connecting to it.

Does this incorporate all 3 distributors?

There are still cases that it would hold, but the windows of opportunity are closing faster and faster. In the stock markets, the windows are typically open for only a few minutes, and we are getting there for comic book spec.

I have no idea how it ties in. It’s possible it just generates a list of who ordered what. My guess is it doesn’t tie directly in to the publishers. And, I’m not sure how FOC works with it. My shop’s policy is if it’s a big title, they don’t care if I pull a book off my pull list even the day before release. But, if it’s a smaller title, they ask me to not pull the book. Seems fair. But, I can even add stuff the day before release, and if they have a copy, I’ll get it in my pull box before it hits the shelves.

This character has never appeared in canon or Legends before. Whether in comic media or other media.

This certain character DID have another father in Legends but that other father was part of a long line of royalty and they had the last name Solo.

This matches up with what happened in Solo: A Star Wars Story where Han was designated “Solo” by the imperial officer because he was alone and had no people. In this new canon continuity, his father abandoned him.

As I said before, this could be a huge misdirection in the end, but I don’t think that matters.

Whether readers, collectors, speculators, or Star Wars fans believe it to be true to begin with, there are going to be a certain amount of people buying this up because they don’t want to miss the boat if it does shake out to be the real deal.

Maybe this “robs the mystery.” But I’m pretty sure Star Wars jumped that shark back in 1999 with The Phantom Menace Anakin and then doubled down with young Boba Fett.
