Translation: ‘Why should we help you flip a book?’
wtf I’d never shop from there again, “due to them being key issues” they make it sound like if a book is deemed a “key” right away then it should be over charged.
Yeah…as I said I’ve shopped there for years (not regularly) and first I’ve seen this behavior. Disappointing.
I did pre-order a copy of each cover elsewhere…hopefully they come through.
I found copies for sale at 3 out of 4 of the local shops I frequent. I was a little surprised. Only one shop didn’t have any and that’s because they simply didn’t order it—perhaps a random $6 one-shot sounded like less than a hot key? I only found one Cover B but got a couple Cover A at each store for a total of five Cover A and the one Cover B. This was midday too and there were copies I left as I try to leave a couple for other folks and/or some shops just let you get one copy of a new release in that week unless you specifically ordered extra so everyone can grab a copy at a shop. I was a little surprised to see plenty of copies around (for now). I already sold everything for a nice little profit so I am pleased!
I find that absolutely reprehensible. The “we got shorted” lie would even be less offensive than “yeah, we were going to sell this to you at cover but since it’s exploding in price we’re going to charge you that amount now.” That message might as well say " f$#@ you, dear customers. Have a nice day!"
These are not key issues…They are hot, flavor of the week comics for now. Maybe someday they will be key issues, but not yet.
What’s the name of the shop? Call them out. It’s not like it was a handshake deal. You bought at the price they had listed and then they were like “whaaaa?” when they saw the Ebay prices. If it was a shop I go to I would call them let them know that what they are doing isn’t cool and tell them I am done shopping there. Doubt they will care. Shops like that usually don’t…until they go under. That’s when the woulda, shoulda, coulda, mentality sets in.
I had a shop do that to me some years back. They where my local shop too. I called about a book. They gave me a price. I told them to put it on my pull and would pick up after work. They called me 30mins later asking 3 times the price. I told them to keep it. That same week I got my pull and closed my account with them. 9 months later they had a closing sale. That same book that they tried to sell me was still on the wall.
I have no issues with shops marking up new books and getting a fair price for them. I mean they’re in the business of selling books. Why should flippers make all the money? However cancelling an order to raise the price is BS. Especially if you ordered by FOC. The main reason people complain about this because their unable to profit of of new releases.
I went to one of the other shops in town, I asked for a copy and they pulled it out from behind the counter, cover price, for me. They had them but not on the shelf. Reasoning, so they wouldn’t be all grabbed by one person. I can handle that, not the “the book you ordered is now priced at market price” approach.
I ordered it Monday or Tuesday. I’m used to the “didn’t have it on stock/inventory error) excuse. Not from them, but other shops.
At least they were…honest about why they cancelled my order….?
I would return books to them that sell for less than cover price. Send them an email as to why you have to cancel your purchases.
I think I have other purchases I’m waiting to pick up.
I’m Considering cancelling them.
Or maybe if they are selling for less than cover on eBay I can ask for a discounted price….
The market value stuff only holds true if it works in their favor. The minute the price drops, most of them still will want the pinnacle price.
That’s crazy. I would never shop from them again. Plenty of other places to spend your money.
That is a great way to make a small short term gain and lose a long term customer. Truly silly, especially for a book that has such a small chance of holding its value, imho.
Wonder how long my shops copies will be on the wall at $40?
Can’t wait for static in the MCU, maybe during Kang Dynasty
