Modern Comics Heating Up (Those With Potential Too) (Part 2)

I agree that some LCSs are not worth going to, they order very few copies of new books for the shelf. You just have to pre-order with them on your pull list and they will be accommodating. There are still some very good shops out there that order a wide variety of stuff and I still enjoy going to them because they will often times have back issue stock of books with delayed heat. That’s how I was able to find a couple copies of It’s Jeff when it was scorching hot. Don’t even know why my LCS decided to put it up on the New This Week releases when the book was a year old, must’ve been the Rivals affect.

Also since most of the stuff that I like to read are not spec worthy, I often times find them at my LCS. I enjoy going there and finding cool new stuff.

But yes to get ahead of the game it’s best to be up on this stuff, share information, help one another. It’s our way of getting a head start on the Hot 10 and CBSI lists before they show up.

Fewer and fewer new books are making the list. It’s a bummer

Good combo

Little boost from having a new issue out this week featuring the bad batch.

Bought 2 copies of #1 and #2 online.

Totally missed out on that series. Vaguely recall it being solicited.

I know zip about Invincible, and this may not be NEW news. But, the last couple issues in the run go for really good money. I got 7 issues in a recent dollar buy. Issue 144 (last one) sold for $90 and a small lot of 5 issues sold for $140, all within 24 hours of posting.

I have a third copy of 144, and I might put that one up at $110. Those two sales turned my slow Feb into a great Feb (for me).

So I mentioned in the past about 6 months ago that I’ve been picking up IDW GI Joe books as they were appreciating in value. At the same time I was picking up Sonic the Hedgehog whenever I can find them cheap. Got a nice stash of them. I mentioned the same collecting philosophy applies, low print run and rabid fan base. Sonic is really hot right now and it’s getting bigger and bigger every year that is loved by multi generations. Something to keep an eye out for.

This is my sale. It’s issue 59 from the IDW series. We’re currently only on issue 76 right now so it’s not even that old. This is an open order cover B. I’m not completely caught up with Sonic as there are just so many characters in the universe but I believe this is just a straight cover buy because of Shadow. The 1:10 incentive for this issue isn’t as expensive as this. Keep an eye out for Sonic books.

Sonic is one of the ones I haven’t chased too hard. I have done very well with IDW licensed comics.

I am gonna look closer today. This is really actionable info.

Agreed, I have been buying Sonic for the last few years. I used to be able to find the Archie series, not anymore. I also have seen the IDW series drying up. Any comic shop I ask if they have Sonic they laugh and say no I wish I did because they sell immediately.

My shop doesn’t carry B covers, but has a decent stack of sonic A cover recent back issues
so if any of those are actionable, I’m on it.

But yes, I find sonic 1:10s in cheap bins on occasion
I used to automatically add them to my TFaW orders but they were available as well
back in the day TFAW would list 1:10s for the same price as open orders
but they’d get scooped up fast.

Those were the good old days.

“Those were the days,” started playing in my head as I read these posts. Good jingle.
