I wish I would have gone a bit more in on that cover. I liked it from the start and did preorder it, but Iām never the type to order too much of anything. Of all the covers, I thought it was the best.

So is 2024 officially the best year ever for modern comic spec? It is for me since Iāve been here. Anyone wouldāve made a killing this year had they gone heavy on any of these hot books. I went heavy on Ultimate Spiderman and Absolute Batman (after reading it).

I am not sure itās the best but I have had a lot of wins this year.
2012 was a wild time.
Any Image #1 was a free $20 or more - Saga, Chew, Peter Panzerfaust, Thief of Thieves saw that in multiples. Walking dead popped and then any book with a hint of an option went to the moon. Sixth Gun pre-pilot was on pace to be another WD #1.
Hot New 52 books and some quality Marvel sleepers, too.
Real crazy time. A lot of people made out real well that year.

I got back into comics a few years after 2012. Image comics was what brought me back. I have heard of waking dead but have read it in trades, comic book speccing was a foreign concept to me. I thought it had died back in the 90s. Sheltered by Brisson and Johnny Christmas ( both local to me) was the title that brought me all the way back. That and Saga. Those 2 books made me open a pull box at my LCS.
Iād have to look back at the numbers, but 2019-2021 were pretty good for me. Especially when Star Wars spec went nuts. I was grabbing books for $2 out of bins, and theyād fly off ebay within minutes for $50 or more. Just about every weekend I was pillaging LCSās. Many of which are gone now, or I donāt go back because I cleaned them out already.
New releases maybe this year was comparable? I donāt remember what was released those years! The market moves on so fast to the next shiny objectā¦
