Ordered 2 copies just in case but it’s arriving with barely any time to beat the FOC of issue #5. At least they’ve delayed the trades arrival until September so maybe someone will want to ride the later print train instead of waiting. We’ll see. I still see people who will not take comics that aren’t 1st prints.
This week’s excitement is accelerating past UBP and BTT’s now. 2 tracking numbers arrived for 2 boxes from Diamond tomorrow from the Marvel Ratio Sale. It should be all 50 and 100 ratio’s that can go up at great prices. I expect hundreds of ratio’s will be a lot more fun.
Do you have a quick email snippet you can share regarding the 12k missing copies? This probably spread based off of one unconfirmed, anonymous source. It is much more likelier a retailer lied to a customer about why their FOC books were not filled. That was then taken as a truth.
What we’ve seen is an Ultimate book that was on FOC before USM released. Once it released, shops everywhere began to submit reorders that are not guaranteed to fill. They were out of overprint stock around January 15.
I had retailers cancel my order for it because they thought they had reorders coming in. Sorry retailers - that’s not how it works. There’s not an endless supply of a book after its gone to print.
Really? You enjoyed that period of the hobby? Like BJ said it’s much better if a book is in demand that shops actually have a copy on the stands for their customers. If they can’t get 1 or 2 they’re not getting the 3rd issue and beyond so shops will cut their order for later issues. I don’t see that as a good thing for the hobby. Sure there are later prints but the OCD nature of most collectors is that if they don’t have the first print they’re not going to get the other issues.
I was half tongue and cheek
What I was really hinting at is that it does seem like the frustrating topics of several years ago are showing themselves again and there’s an aura of “familiarity” with it; albeit unwelcomed.
Speculators stir up the whole demand as well though, think about it.
Book comes out, demand goes up because it’s good and it was unpredictable. Then you got some groups gobbling up all the extra copies found to sell on the aftermarket. Supply vs Demand. Can’t predict demand from initial orders and publishers were designed when it comes to printing more copies when demand goes up, they do second, third and so on. So if collectors are so OCD on getting a first print and missed out, well, they get to go pay aftermarket prices if they really want it. That’s just how it all works.
Too many aspects though knowing if this is healthy or not for the industry, since part of it is not healthy when speculators and or collectors are driving up the value based on false demand because they were able to corner the market by gobbling up more copies than the 1 or two for themselves, instead buying multiple copies to sell to those who didn’t pre-order or missed the shelf copies on release day.
You know, when I’m out hunting & making stops at comic stores that I likely wouldn’t have made were it not for a current FOMO type book, I almost always find something to buy. I may not come away with the hot book, but I’ve still supported the shop via some other purchases.
I think the increased traffic into shops has to be a positive result of spec stuff.
True, but not all speculators on the hunt are probably doing this. Not everyone buys a snickers bar when they just need to use the bathroom on a long trip.
I’m waiting for a response as I already said to confirm. Here’s the 1st snipet from the sales associate yesterday.
"Hello,
This is Ryan Flynn, I spoke with you a little while ago regarding your black panther issues for ultimate black panther #1. I’m still researching what is going on with the title, but if you have any further questions please feel free to reach out to me. I’ll try and have a response for you by tomorrow if that’s okay, thanks.
Thank you,
Ryan Flynn, Customer Service Coordinator"
He doesn’t want to say officially yet which I understand. 12K is the number BC uses in their article. I don’t know one way or the other which is why I made multiple phone calls and e-mails to different PRH people trying to confirm anything. BC sometimes has sources that pan out a few days later and sometimes they’re completely wrong even if they will not admit it like when they announced Doctor Strange canceled at #10 and we were getting a new Doctor strange when all they were doing is most likely hinting at a baby to come in the solicits.
In general, if Diamond allows an order to be placed after FOC, it fills. PRH is a little different. Their website will allow orders to be placed but I’m not sure there’s a direct connect between expected overage. In my case I got every Klein Variant I ordered and 1 of the other covers for US1. For UBP1 the orders were placed but the system e-mail said back order on the confirmation e-mail. Once PRH switches to “Temporarily out of stock” there’s no chance it seems. Lunar’s pretty clear as well, e-mail comes in as “available” you get it, “back order” don’t hold your breath.
Am I missing something in that reply from Ryan that indicates in anyway there might be veracity to the claim? All I’m seeing is a fairly standard boiler plate reply from a lower-level sales rep saying he’s going to ask about your wild claim.
Copies ordered after FOC are not guaranteed. All retailers know this, right?
NO PRH books are listed as temporarily out of stock until the day of their RELEASE.
The Klein variant filled because Marvel went back to print for that book over a stupid interior page printer ink line. That book is now the trash book of USM1 because reorders were accepted and it went back to print. Garbage book.
As you can see in this PRH listing for Avengers Twilight #1, you can order the Foil or the 2nd print right now but the Felepe is the only one of those 3 “Temporarily Out of stock”
As stated four minutes ago, books that have not released yet (2/28/24) will not show as temporarily oos even if the available overprint has been claimed.
