New Comic Book Day

I know I did. I started listening Tuesday night with actual photos of the books that I had in my toolbox picked them up yesterday shipped them. I made a profit and paid for all the books I bought yesterday so I’m happy.

Immediately is the way for any of this new stuff (including true convention exclusives)

I’ve gone back to a hotel room preview night of SDCC; put the Preview night haul on the bed, taken pictures, and up for sale they go.
This stuff has the shelf life of an icicle in 100 degree heat.

So all those people hasseling comic shops yesterday aren’t going to be Nectar millionaires? Big surprise. It has just turned into flippers selling to speculators. Nothing organic. Nothing sustainable. Still not sure if comics are back or if it’s just a flash in the pan Pokémon flipper mentality that is here but fading fast.

It’s not all books. There are plenty with sustained heat. I sold some beefcake covers last night. Sold a slab. Stuff still sells better than this time last year. But it seems if you are waiting to list on the day of release for these flash in the pan books, you are too late.

I’ve only listed my foil…finally sold today but had to drop it To $10 below what other auctions were asking (they were not selling).

I haven’t listed any other Nectars or Narco. Need to get off my arsee before I’m left with copies I can’t move like the DC KO books and Murder Drones.

So glad I pulled back on this week’s. May just tuck them away…spec for another day.

Yeah, I think going forward I am going to have to realize my limitations. I’m not able to get the books Tuesday night to list. This has gotten too fast for me now. It was a fun two months of flipping, though. I don’t want to get stuck with books, and flipping something for $2 because it cooled off in less than 24 hours of release isn’t worth the energy and time for me personally. I’m going to resort to living vicariously through the sales streak posts unless something really looks like a slam dunk.

I figured D’orc would have too high of a print run, so I didn’t order any. LCS didn’t order it either, so that was that. Nectar was gone by the time I got to the shop so I picked up a Narco and it sold in an hour.

I did order some DC All In Special third prints after the switch to a Dragotta cover (again, LCS didn’t order). It’s not burning up the charts, but I think it’ll hold some value in the near-/long-term.

I agree with a number of folks on here saying that will have the most, “Legs,” of everything this week.

I think the DC All In Special 3rd print will have the most stability and organic growth. As long as the Absolute series continue to do well, then the All In’s (all prints) will maintain simply due to the 1st appearance of the main trio in it

I realized a LONG time ago that I am way too lazy to capitalize on the quick flip

It’s to the point now if you preorder some of these comics online, by the time they ship to you, the quick flip is over. You made the right call when you guessed at FOC, but the market is too fast now.

My normal strategy has been to order up one copy at FOC (MCS) and if the book gets hot on release I grab a few extra copies at my LC and flip those. My MCS copy becomes my hold book.

So many shops I ordered from this past month took over a week to ship. That’s where the risk has bitten me. But I did score some SW 10s, D’orcs and Florida Hippo books that retained enough value that made it ok…definitely passed on books the last two weeks though. Too risky.

It’s a risk and kinda always has been, but there’s a lot of sheep in the market currently. My recommendation for anyone preordering at FOC is to do it with a retailer in your state or a neighboring state. If they ship when they say they will, you’ll get the books relatively quickly before the hype disappears. It’s definitely trial and error, but it has worked for me.

My biggest problem right now is that my local LCS that I like to order FOC from won’t accept orders after Sat midnight. But Sunday is usually the day I really sit down and go through the FOC and read the articles, etc. If I pick books after Sat midnight then I have to buy them online which means shipping and delays (this is what happened to my D’orc) otherwise I have the books Wednesday morning about 10:02am. Sold my Nectar by 1030am this week, perfect.

If my shop had a means to accept online orders for FOC, I’d give them a lot more business. I don’t like that I have to message them and describe them each book. Make it easy for me to give you my money!

Sustainable Indies need to have reader spec and be overlooked at foc

Pitch them League of Comic Geeks. I did just that with my shop a few years back. Now they have a bunch of pulls customers using it. It’s fantastic.

I told them I’d redirect my TFAW orders to them.

One of my shops just started using it. It makes it a lot easier to request a book.

I think the Marvel Team Up #14 McFarlane variant may have some legs over the next few weeks. A few available at cover but others that have sold above cover.
