New Comic Book Day

So, for the GHOST MACHINE #1 1:100 SIGNED & NUMBERED VARIANT, there are 775 copies.

Which brings the total print run of all copies to over 77,500…

Do we really believe there are enough shops ordering 100+ copies to justify a 775 print run? Especially for an independent publisher and an IP that is new?

For every shop that can order 100 copies, you have to think there are at least another 100 copies being ordered by other shops that order less than 100. So that would push this book to ~150k print run.

Thundercats barely got there with all sorts of 1:100/1:200 incentives. And that’s a widely know IP and was really pumped by Dynamite.

I guess my point is I wouldn’t be surprised if the print run is actually less than 77500, but they ordered extra copies of the 1:100 to sell later and make more money. I have a hard time believing this book/title is that popular to have that many copies ordered. Something is off here. Was this a returnable book?

Oh wait, I remember this title now. Lots of variant covers. Maybe there are that many copies out there. But still seems high for a 1:100.

Can look to eBay this week to see how high the signed numbers go…might give an indication of how far “down the pile” they got when shipping out 1:100s.

So far I see 204/775.

I would be surprised if a book like Ultimate Spider-man #1 1:100 has 775 printed copies.

I wouldnt be surprised if it was over 5,000. There were alot of store variants

USM #1 1st print 1:100 is dead spec…now that the 1:25 3rd is coming out.

In fact…would not surprise me if cover A sales dip below $25 by end of next week.

You think? Even with a store variant print of 3k that is 30 1:100 issues. Not sure how many store variants there have been, but I don’t recall seeing more than four or so. Of course that is just a guess. I didn’t even look to make sure. Outside of the big online stores such as TFAW, Midtown, MCS, Grahm Cracker and a few others I don’t think many mom and pop shops even ordered 100 copies to qualify for the 1:100 seeing how caught off guard most people were with the book. Some did I’m sure, but I doubt the average one did. Who knows when it comes down to it. It would be nice if Marvel would state after the fact how many of their ratios got printed and distributed. They will never do that though.

We just dont know. 5,000 is probably a stretch.

All the covers are still selling, so if a person has extra, sell them and make some money! I have a feeling there will be a pretty large print on that third print 1:25. I think that is one where even smaller shops will chase the ratio.

Yes. 1-25 is not that much of a stretch for shops.

Unless interns at Marvel are put in change and totally f-up and put out crappy covers for the 3rd print.

You mean like a cover that is one solid color and has the word “spoiler” printed on it with no art at all?

Anything good this week? I need another ultimate spiderman 1 week…

Honey, I only can hope we get another Ultimate Spider-Man level of success this year. That thing is a modern marvel, no pun intended.

I love all y’all, y’all are my honeys!

Good news for facsimile foil lovers. I just bought the Flash 123 facsimile foil today. This was a megacon exclusive not that long ago selling at inflated prices over $50. You can buy it now at your shop for $5.99. I always thought it was a misstep from DC and Marvel for allowing their facsimiles to be store and con exclusives where they can charge $50-$100 for some of their biggest keys. I think the publishers have now stopped retailers from using their facsimiles as foil exclusives.

Hopefully we will be seeing Batman 423 and Batman Adventures 12 foils soon as those have already been used for con exclusives. I love these foils.
