Really? I got the opposite vibe. I’m thinking of him as his own entity separate from Knull. Built his own world and hive and does him. With Knull coming our dimension(616) and this other dimension isn’t or hasn’t had a Knull awakening yet I gather hes his own boss. Maybe Eddie n Dylan make him aware and Knull now knows about him? But I didnt get the feeling Of Knull being his Palpatine. I’m thinking of him as Darth Maul in the clone wars doing his own thing.

Well he captured Virus so maybe he’s a good guy and the cover to #29 was released to throw us off.

I think Virus will eventually become or is a good guy… he just has it out for Eddie… he doesn’t seem to have any other agenda thus far that we know of.

I still feel like the cover to #29 is actually Codex try to just invoke some sort of reaction, any reaction, or possibly the powers Dylan possesses into coming out. In another thread I mentioned a Robin mother kicking her chick from the nest. All Dylan typically does is stand around slack jawed…time to get rolling kid.

Yeah, this issue read to me as though Virus isn’t a pure bad guy. I will say this for the issue, I am fully intrigued by this particular new world and I’m curious to see Codex say more things so we can get a better sense of his character.
Virus and Venom may need to work together not to get destroyed by Codex
Once Dylan shows off some new powers, will he then become a new version of the Dylan character? IE another first appearance separate from Venom 7 and Venom 9?
Once activated, if the Symbiote takes a specific looking new costume form. I imagine we’ll all be chasing yet another new Cates character…
Speaking of Virus… is it just me or in the splash page in Venom 25 did his head / skull look normal?
Or maybe there’s multiple Virus did Eddie Brock ever do Multiple Man wrong, I think he’s dead currently.

I think Dylan already possessed whatever powers he will use in the future. It’s not like a typical symbiote character that has the symbiote and the host appear separately and then when they bond, that becomes the 1st appearance. So if I’m right, venom 7 / 9 would be the books.

Checking in a week later, how are you feeling about Codex’s prospects as a spec? You’re sitting on like 300+ books so curious on your take or anyone else with thoughts on it.
I’ve been hunting that Venom 25 / 2nd print anytime i can get it for $20 or less which I’m still finding every so often. However my inventory on it is getting to a critical mass where if Cates puts this character back on the shelf for 12 months, I’ll probably have some regret haha
You got a good point about that, since Codex as far as we know is a “villain”… villains come and go at first until they turn more into a hero over time (hrrrmmmm… cough cough… Venom… hrrmmm… ). I doubt we’re gonna see a never ending battle through several story arcs… people would start to lose interest if you drag it out for too long.
Codex makes such great covers (at least IMO) that I don’t think they’ll want to kill him off or completely ditch him.
Is there a path for Codex to be a part of the upcoming Knull King in Black event? I think any size regular role in the King In Black Event would assure Codex relevance for the forseeable future.
But he IS from a different dimension, so he’d literally have to go to a different dimension in order to be included in the King in Black event, right?
Feeling really great. He’s been labeled as a boss, so our suspicions have been confirmed.
I’m not worried about him getting shelved at all. Cates has telegraphed that all of the issues from 25 and earlier were to tell the story of the past and the present and that going forward it’s all about the future.
Codex appears to be a very big part of that and may even be tied in with the Knull event.
I ended up getting 485 more second prints once we confirmed 27 is a triple key.
I’m hoping Codex will be on the cover of the third print and I’ll get a bunch more.
