And This:
Seeing Red and Gold Leader again in Rogue One was, for me, one of the coolest moments of any Star Wars experience outside of initially viewing the movies as a kiddo for the first time.
Watching the Death Star turn from rumor into reality over the skies of Jedha and Scarif was pretty cool. We also got just enough Vader in it. Like wasabi on sushi: not to much, but enough for some kick.
[quote=“agentpoyo, post:177, topic:6314, full:true”] that book is going to have another mini-explosion in the future when Aphra does show up.

Darth Vader #3 will become one of the most sought-after, top Star Wars keys once Aphra is introduced on the big or big-ish screen. Even if it turns out to be so so it will future proof the character. A lot of potential with her.
Yup. Think about it, she’s had two long ongoing volume titles of her own. She’s got more issues of her own title than most of the well known Star Wars characters.
I hadn’t read your review before today, but I wholeheartedly agree. I actually got into this very discussion with a few buddies over an old fashioned or two this past weekend, and I made the same claim. Rogue One is the best SW movie to date. I utterly adore EP4-6. Their importance in the history of movie making can’t be oversold. BUT, standing on its own, Rogue One is the best movie.
And, the TV shows have done absolutely nothing to mimic what made R1 so good. Sure, it’s cool to see Boba back. Oh, and there’s Cad Bane. Oh, there’s a droid from empire. Oh, we’re riding rancors now? OK. But all that with no story or no real threat to characters, and it’s just all meh.
Having said that, I’m still watching it all. I’m just hoping for more Rogue One and less rancor riding.
It’s a lot of comic-style cameos and drop-ins.
I’ve come to see Star Wars TV as comics. If I watch an episode one week and it kinda sucks, I get into the same mood as I do when I read a crap issue from Marvel. “Well that wasn’t as good as it could be. Oh well. Hope next one’s better.”
The amount of weight I place on each show isn’t as high as it was when Mandalorian came out. Oh man, looking back, I’d wager to say that the premier of Mandalorian Episode 1 was as formative as my first time seeing Empire, or my first time seeing the Prequels. That was some solid, good TV. Strip all the Star Wars out of it and just make it a generic space wester-still good. That’s the goal. A story that, if stripped of all copyright protected Star Wars material, would still be a good story.
I’ve only seen 1 Star Wars movie so far, A New Hope.
Do I need to see Empire Strikes Back first before I see this Obi-Wan series?
I know that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father and that’s pretty much it.
You can watch Episodes I, II and III before New Hope which is IV and Empire Strikes back is V.
They also have a pretty solid recap montage before the first episode of Obi-Wan.
I wonder, from a viewer going in fresh, what would be the most impactful in terms of viewing order.
The reveal in ESB, and the final events of ROTJ we’re a very big deal back then. Hell, I still feel emotional with scenes from Jedi (Star Wars got me through some awful childhood events though so that is part of it as well).
I wonder if the events of 5, 6 would “feel” the same if everything was watched in order relative to what we have now.
I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on it all if you don’t mind when your done watching it all!
Here’s the thing I’ve been noticing. These Star Wars shows seemed to be steering clear of retelling material already in comics. They have brought in the characters for cameos or an episode or two (Bane/Krrsantan) but I’m wondering if they are letting the comics be and just telling stories that haven’t already been told in other medium.
Not sure how they’d handle Dr. Aphra without “re-writing” some of her early story lines or retconning them.
That is a good observation but the only counter I would have is Aphra’s fan base is constantly growing. She’s pretty darn popular and Disney knows it. If they didn’t do any comic re-telling she would do fine as an Indiana Jones type set in the Star Wars universe going on whatever adventures. I don’t think the fan base would care as long as she gets put on screen.
I would have preferred if Obi-Wan followed more of the Journals of Kenobi, even if they took some creative Liberties.
Im quietly hoping she’s in Skeleton Key. No concrete reason to think she is but if the title suggests they’ll be dealing w/ artifacts it would make sense. Since it’s the same time period as Mando she could reunite w/ Krrsantan as a way to bring her into the overall story.
