Sounds like the writers didn’t fully understand SW canon. If Filoni hadn’t shut it down, we’d have to do some canonical mental gymnastics to make sense of certain things in Rebels (Ezra leading Maul to Obi-Wan, Maul’s deathbed realization about the chosen one).
I am heartened that scripts for new projects are being run by him, even if he isn’t the showrunner.
I saw social media aghast that they could of had Maul, but didn’t get it yesterday and today. My reaction was why would you want to jam Maul into a story where he doesn’t make sense? Doesn’t that ruin everything Lucasfilm has been working to develop since 2014?
I know he’s very unassuming and “aw shucks,” but I wouldn’t blame Filoni if he ripped up those scripts and sat all the writers down and forced them to watch Rebels in its entirety. Then told them to make a show about what Obi-Wan was doing during this time.
