Odds and Ends

Yes, I’m in. I plan on doing some smaller shows next year, VFW hall kind of places. Curious what others experience is at those types of shows.

Oh man, I was hoping for some regular NBA fan talk, not trash talk… :frowning:

I’m active on another board that discusses the NBA. The team that I follow is the Toronto Raptors. For years now there’s been an all out civil war between the members there. Half the people there want to tank the season and get a high draft pick, the other half is vehemently against tanking. Tons of mudslinging thrown at each other lol.

Btw speaking of Comics and pro wrestling, I was listening to a wrestling podcast recently and one of the host started off the show that he just read this this amazing new comic titled Absolute Batman 1. He was raving about it saying how great it was. I have never known this host to bring up comics before so this was a nice surprise.

Players can’t do that. If they’re caught intentionally trying to lose, that stigma will follow them the rest of their careers, which would likely be very shortened.

Also, if coaches are caught tanking games, that will also hurt their future career opportunities, if they aren’t fired on the spot.

Basically, whether the fans want it or not, it’s not an option. Or never is and never will be in professional sports.

I dislike when teams tank… the Mavs kind of tanked two years ago at the end, pissed me off. They could have made the playoffs but chose not to for draft reasons.

Tanking happens all the time in the NBA, it’s been happening for decades. The players don’t tank, they’re fighting for their jobs and contract. Coaches don’t tank, they do the best with what they are given. The front office (management ) are the ones who tank. If there’s a player coming into the league like a franchise changer like Lebron James, you can sure believe they’re doing what they can to improve their odds especially if they’re in a small market.

The front office tanks by strategically “resting” their players and holding them out to play their inexperienced young guys. It’s gotten so bad that the nba has changed the draft lottery odds to make them more flat to discourage tanking.

Llke Poyo said the Mavs did it several years ago when they could’ve made the playoffs. Our General Manager Masai Ujiri pretty much admitted that our team tanked during the pandemic bubble season. In return we got the 4th overall pick that won the rookie of the year and made the all star team last season. He is the player we’re building our franchise around.

My basketball forum knows full well we have no control on what our front office does but that doesn’t stop us from arguing with one another . It’s equivalent to our debate here about first appearances or cameo, hot spec book or dollar bin fodder.

The discussion is actually pretty heated this year for our team. This upcoming nba draft has the best young talent in the last 20 years. The top 5 in the draft are projected to be all stars and franchise changers. This draft is DEEP.

I know I have mentioned it before but my sales have been popping off lately. Not just new hot stuff but books I have had listed forever too. Was well over 200 eBay listings and now down to about 180. Times to load them up and let them sit again.

Anyone else seeing more sales since the beginning of Q4?

I’ve had some stuff move that was sitting for a bit. It’s been more active for sure.

Yep, 5 sales for 8 books in the last 3 days. A lot for me, pretty dry before this week though.

I’ve been crushing in sales but that’s partly because I’ve been listing some higher ticket items (NM 98, Hulk 340, ASM 361). Got a very nice sale for NM 98 at auction that was much higher than I thought I would get. So decided to list some other items thanks to the monkey business going on at the grading companies.

I had multiple people message me with those sweet sweet words “will you do combine shipping for Hulk 340 and ASM 361?” I checked their profile and they’re not sellers, they just buy stuff. Actually had one buyer won both auctions. Someone on this board mentioned that it’s a good idea to space your auctions out because sometimes buyers will buy multiple auctions and would want combine shipping. Thanks for that, that was great advice.

Other than that sold a TON of dollar bin…er I mean Absolute Batman 1, Monsters 1 and some random stuff. Yesterday had 5 sales and today sold 6 copies of Absolute Wonderwoman (for a small profit). I’m not sure if AWW 1 will have the sustained legs like Batman so I decided to sell them off for cheap for now.

Speaking of sales, I just listed my copy of West Coast Avengers 7 (Jeff the Landshark) that I got at a con yesterday. Got an offer and sold in minutes.

I’m at $4972 for the year, so I’m kinda done with “certain” type of sales.
But it was quite fast moving for a time to get me there

It’s that time of year… Ebay tends to pick up in sales this time into Jan / Feb timeframe.

Checked my sales the last few months. Maybe 10% of my sales have been listings that have been sitting for a month or more. And most of those are in the late September/Early October…so I would say no, I’m not really selling much other than new listings.

This meatball found my grail.
