Odds and Ends

So you are seeing better sales on Mercari as well.

So on the fence about selling my Invincible holdings. Legit about $2800 worth of books. Many keys. Several over a couple of hundred dollars.

Selling that will get you closer to your ASM book…

Selling that would get me the ASM and first Ghost Rider plus dropping money in my kids investment account b

I think you just answered your own question… :+1:

Realistically, what would trigger Invincible books to go higher than current prices? Maybe live action adaptation, but is that even on the table while the cartoon is active? Or ever?

I think TWD prices are the guide here. I’d probably sell everything but the first issue (or one special issue you really like).

I bought them as Spec books years ago. Just sat on them. Now I know I need to sell its just tough parting with things that have been in the collection and not in the inventory

Why would you want a modern book when the alternative is having two of the biggest bronze books out there?

Thats my take.

Invincible is most likely to go down. GR and Punisher are much more stable.

There will be opportunities to buy invincible for a long time.

Yeah, that’s why if I buy a book for spec and I want it in my collection, I get two copies. Usually at least one is raw.

I have a lot of books I should have sold at the peak in hind sight and bought it back at half or less now.

But most of those there’s a atory behind the acquisition so it’s more than just a book to me.

No real story on the books besides my #1 Larry’s Variant. That one I bought at a con from Larry. He always gave me deals. I paid $20 for it. Everything else was bought off the shelves or from back issue bins.

After seeing how much issue #120 was going for I put up everything I have Invincible over the course of this week. Everything I listed has already got a ton of views in just a couple days.

Since posting have made 7 sales. 6 eBay vs 1 Mercari.

A blend of new and old listings…mostly newer.

I started listing Friday. Sold like $300 already.

Got 9 sales today for approx $400. Technically it would’ve been 10 sales today so far but it was a low ball offer of 50% of my listing. I don’t mind buyers looking for a good deal as this is what we all do but this is especially aggravating because I have already priced it lower than what the FMV is and what other sellers are listing it at on top of having best offer turned on. Buyer knows that the comic is currently on the low end of what others are asking for and still can’t help himself with a low ball offer.

Anyways back to what I was saying. I haven’t been experiencing any of this summer slowdown that some of you are experiencing. I’ve been consistently getting between 2-5 sales per day, sometimes will miss a day with sales but other times lots and lots of sales. Pretty good considering I only have 160 listings on right now. Just selling comics that people want. Been trying to list more but things keep selling. Haven’t sold any FOMO hot books lately except the Dark Patterns book yesterday.

That’s my new thing for 2025, is to actually list things. Turns out if you list things people will buy them. Just go hunting and listing the better quality items that people want and less of the junk.

What were the 9 books you sold, if you don’t mind me asking?

I never sell at the volume you sell, but I’ve had a good summer, too. August was slow, but sold a few this weekend.

It was some IDW Gi Joe books that I listed today, Resident Aliens, Galacta Daughter of Galactus (VF copy so didn’t mind selling it cheaply), also sold an OOP HC of Tales of Batman by Len Wein, Bruce Timm Dirty Pair.

Side note: Resident Aliens has been selling really well for me. Been selling a lot of those. Found a copy of Resident Alien #1 (first series) at a con and sold it for $37 shipped. I could probably hold out for more but I got for a $1 so when someone made the offer I was ok with it.

It’s all been about GI Joe and Invincible for me. I purchased a large lot of IDW GI Joe about a year ago for $1 each. Sat on them for the better part of the year. Prices rose and I listed them. They are selling really well for me. Oddly since I listed the Invincibles they have been selling on eBay pulling my eBay sales above my Mercari sales.

I always talk about sourcing. You have to find a way to buy comics cheap. It really helps out for sales. The $1 GI Joes are not $15-$20 books. I paid $1. One guy offered $17.99 each for several books I listed for $19.99. Selling them at that price point is still a huge upside.

Garage/Yard/Flea is 95% of my purchases now. Gotta find the individuals/homes that just don’t care; and just want to get rid of the comics for dirt.
For me, speculation is mostly dead and I no longer want to gamble with a character or a cover or whatever “the hook” might be. Tired of the boxes of failed spec.

yep, my bread and butter is selling $1 books that I get and getting sales of anywhere from $15-50. Those make up the majority of my sales (ie IDW Joe books). Sadly I have lost 2 places that I source from within the last year because the store was badly managed by the owners treating his store like his personal man cave so they had to shut down.

Been trying to look for more garage/yard sales but no luck. Went to one last weekend where they advertised there would be comics but when I got there it was less than 10 comics and all were 90s junk.

I mentioned this before but I found a very nice collection that someone was trying to sell on facebook but I couldn’t make an account and it got disabled lol. I talked to some people and I think it’s because I didn’t make a profile when I signed up and only used it to browse marketplace for comics when I signed up. It somehow triggered their integrity check and gave me the boot. Super annoying.
