Yeah…they are sucking me in…it’s the new foil craze.

@Anthony do you know if these will come with the mtg card? Figured I’d ask you since you might know since they’re your local store.
yes, every variant including store variants of that issue will have card
Are we buying an comic and getting a card or are we buying the card and getting a comic? It’s a paradox!
I wonder if the card is going to be in plastic/part of the book…so if it’s removed it’s suddenly a “qualified” comic…
So I found a sealed poly bagged version of the first MTG comic (that was on the hot list a while back) at a con. Was giddy to find it for $1. Went home to go over my haul and found out someone had ripped the back and took out the card that was supposed to come with the comic.
The comic and bag was intact except for the tiny rip that was large enough to remove the card. Unbelievable.
That is a huge bummer.
Yeah that’s the one. Prices have come down quite a bit but might get a little spike with the attention from the marvel variants coming up.
I know very little about MTG… is an exclusive card like this a big deal / desirable in the MTG world?
… and is 30K-50K cards (if the print run is in this area) going to be considered desirable/valuable?
I mean, if there is enough FOMO, somehow, then maybe?
No, the Magic and comic crowd don’t overlap. We have stores here that carry both as well as manga and other geeky things. The magic crowd comes for game night and knows less than zero about comics.
True story, I was at one of these shops recently, it was a hybrid TCG and comic shop. The owner had one of the TCG staff man the cashier while I was there. I took some comics up to the counter along with a copy of DC Previews. The cashier rang up my books and stopped at the DC Previews, looking all over trying to find out how much it costs. Complete deer in the headlights look and his brain malfunctioned. Owner saw that his staff is struggling, walked over and told him those were free.
Side note, hybrid TCG shops that carry some comics are my favorites. I have found 1 per stores, secret variants and ratios sitting on the new release shelves. There’s usually a 16 year old teenager working the cashier and he/she knows less than zip about comics.
A comic fan may have some interests in TCG and magic. Very rarely it’s the other way around.
I don’t really mingle much with the card crowd, but I cant say I know a single primarily TCG collector that dabbles in comics.
I have quite a few friends that are into TCG/Magic. None of them are interested in comics.
I have a friend who has tons of MTG cards, played a lot while also at the same time was a pretty big comic book fan but does neither of each nowadays. I think he’s in the process of sorting through both his collections to start selling them off.
I guess the card itself not really the comic is what I’m curious about. It does come with a playable MTG card right?
Oh the card. It’s hard to say but I can see it bringing some curiosity. The Fortnite Marvel crossover was a big hit in my area. My LCS were saying they had so many new faces that they have never seen before coming in for the comics because it had a code.
Something similar could happen but it’s all a guess at this point. I don’t think there will be any excitement until it comes out and then if the masses come looking for the exclusive cards and can’t find one.
Like I said earlier the MTG crowd don’t follow the comic scene so they might hear about the cards afterwards and then try to get one.
