I live near Framingham. I haven’t been to Bedrock in several years. It’s a small shop and my understanding is they stopped selling new comics to focus on back issues. There is a Newbury Comics in the nearby Natick Mall. They have very limited current offerings…similar to other Newburys that D-Rog and I have already mentioned. Best to purchase their books near release day to avoid spine damage.

Man, the last line says it all. “I’m Dennis Barger living in the past…” Barger has always reminded me of every elitist, look down your nose comic guy you find at comic book shops that just are waiting to tell you the same 5 stories they have already told you 3 months earlier. Love the glee you see in his eyes being able to record a story he has probably honed and retold for better than 30 years.

I have 40 years of obtaining autographs.
40 years of memories and interactions long before CGC yellow labels and getting autographs on covers.
Great experiences and some rough ones w/ artists & writers.
My top 3 worst experiences: (and I met each of these men several times +)
- Byrne
- Infantino
- Windsor Smith
And there is no doubt in my mind who is #1 on my list.
The guy was, and is beyond the curmudgeonist of all curmudgeons

I haven’t met Byrne or Barger, but the irony is that both of them have detractors and nasty reputations. And while the scenario Barger describes sucks, he takes such glee in slamming Byrne that he’s not coming off as the hero that he thinks he is. He doesn’t have to carry Elsewhen, but acting like Byrne will miss those sales is laughable.
Chaykin has always been nice to me. I have seen him show contempt for someone, but not to their face.

My favorite part of the video is when Dennis said he will never carry any Byrne books in his store (unless someone specifically asks for it). He wanted to save someone from falling in love with Byrne’s work and one day will want to meet him.

I have met Dennis in person. A couple of times. First time I met him was in Baltimore. He was inviting a bunch of people to go play Pokémon Go downtown. Seemed like a nice enough guy. I like a lot of his viewpoints on comics. Especially cutting new comics in favor of only selling older comics as a shop.

Yeah, I think that’s where this falls apart. Sure you had a negative experience with him but that doesn’t mean you gotta go out of your way to make a YouTube video to try and prevent others from buying, reading and meeting him… That’s why I say he contradicts himself when he says he doesn’t care about John Byrne anymore because he does, since he’s spending so much time and effort to try and “save” others from his own experience decades ago… Time to let go and move on I say…
But I do applaud him for standing his ground. If you say you’re not gonna support something any longer due to a negative experience, all the power to you if you can stick to it. If you can’t and most don’t it seems, then don’t even mention it publicly, that’s just people needing that extra special attention in their lives when they cry wolf…
I went to a Newbury Comics in Quincy Market. Big store. Here is their comic section

We spent the day in Boston because the baseball tournament was rained out. Weather sucks here. lol.
One thing I noticed about Boston is the lack of merge lanes getting on the high way. The lane drops off right into oncoming traffic. What I have seen is most people just go for it. My waiting for a clearing seems to anger some of the locals.
Museum of Illusions is cool. Went by cheers.

Different cities have interesting little traffic things. In Saint Louis we have these weird flashing yellow arrows where you can go, but need to yield to oncoming traffic…kind of like just a green light at an intersection without an arrow…but not, due to right turns. It’s a thing.
If you drove into Boston today on the 30 or the 90…. Then yes. I am sorry.
Two other weird things, I didn’t really hear any thick Boston accents. Also, the highway doesn’t drain well.
Go to Jersey and learn about Jug handles the hard way.
Oh. Also a lot of the exits I had been on are very circular in the Boston area. I got dizzy going round and around.
- I think Newbury “Comics” needs to rebrand itself. I suspect their comic sales are a very small volume of total sales. I’ve watched their comic offerings decline over time. And few people seek out their back issues because they are all damaged.
- MA drivers are awful. And our roads suck too.

Agreed. Their homepage has literally nothing about comics except for the word in their logo.
