Odds and Ends

I’m totally in favor or rereleasing old stuff with a big fat disclaimer about the content but keeping the content. I see both left-wing and right-wing people who seem to think differently for different reasons tho. It’s not a political issue as much as a truth and logic one.

Also, that plush is adorable.

Your last sentence gets to the source of it all: there can only be one truth. It’s not a relative concept.

I disagree, i thought Wonder Woman 2 was brilliant,
as a father to a child, I could see how Lords determination to please his son would lead him to do some terrible things, but those things ending in the death of his son, no.no…which straightened him up even though he was losing his mind, you could see it, I thought that the Max Lord character was brilliant… Very emotional at the end, must admit he got me right in the throat.

As the end of the year approaches I am looking forward to my Christmas break. I am burned out at work. Need a break. Just 10 more days until I am off for two weeks. Plan to do some comic picking over the break.

So, you would think this happened twice that Kevin would take notes on the “What not do to when running a comic book business”… yet he launches Frankies and does basically the same exact thing that happened twice prior… Hmmmm…

All I’ve learned at this point is Kevin doesn’t apparently learn from experience and honestly after all this over should step away from this business and any business.

Took Terry a whole lot less time I think

Uh… :grimacing:

I can’t speak on other countries, but within the context of the United States, the effects of racism in US history and current day culture are massive enough – foundational – that this kind of statement seemingly minimizes what millions of non-white people have experienced.
My opinion and only through the lens of US behavior from 1600s to present.

Back to the odds and ends…

While I don’t think this kind of supposition is helpful, we can agree on, “What do we do now?”

What the hell are you talking about? I don’t know your background, don’t know where you live, or where you’re from but this assumption is highly offensive and ignorant. I’ve seen you post in CHU before and it’s always ignorant crap like this. I’m open to educated discussions, but saying things such as this are disappointing to say the least.

Also, Hitler’s Jewish doctor help save his mother’s life. It wasn’t about “good Jew” or “bad jew”. Hitler was still the main reason for 6 million Jewish deaths.

Hasbro has been selling all their toy lines to discount retailers. Mostly licensed products no one wants. (Marvel and Star Wars, mostly)

I really wonder what the true costs of action figure production, licensing, packaging is?
That is where I struggle. Are the costs so much now that Hasbro truly does have to put the prices on the figures we are seeing? If that’s the case then I understand the dilemma.

I’ve actively collected action figures for 46 years. It’s just been the last two years or so that I simply can’t justify the price tag anymore. I still make a few exceptions but I’ve really clamped down.

Area stores have figures clogging the pegs. Christmas time & nobody is buying this stuff. Certainly, times have also changed in terms of who is collecting “what”, but I just don’t think people want to pay $20 up for action figures.

Aside from the price tag, I also believe packaging decisions had an impact. The new , no window box on figures like Marvel Legends are awful. Many collectors are non opener’s…if you make a product less desirable for display then they also become an easy pass.

I was just at Ollie’s today…even at crazy low prices the stuff is sitting.

I honestly miss buying the figures. This is but one section of many in my home…5 deep. I have so many fond memories wrapped around this stuff. I do hope they continue with the Haslab stuff…that has been a bright spot.

I was just talking with a friend about this this past weekend. He is likewise a collector since the '70s and also works part-time at a comic shop. Prices don’t help, but the windowless packaging really hurts. Customers aren’t buying, he’s not buying for himself, I certainly won’t buy figures I can’t see (I have to have clean paint applications), and anecdotally I see figures sitting around at Target and Walmart as well.

Only star wars figure I wanted was an HK-47 action figure, but it was stuck in a 2-pack for $40. Oh yeah, and it’s only 3.75"; not even 6". Meanwhile, Mcfarlane sells 6-7" figures for $20. I picked up Haunt and Wonder Woman Mcfarlane figures together on amazon for <$14 shipped during a recent sale. I’ll just wait for deals. I’m not collecting everything anymore. Seeing all of those figures in your photo is quite pleasant.

Hasbro can become a money pit for retail quickly. Take an 8 pack of figures Diamond charges $148 for. Then they ship it out frequently in the manufacturer box charging $25-$30 in UPS charge for the one box with most figures getting some type of box damage from the UPS handling or if you’re lucky, they put it into a larger box so it’s less beat up but the UPS shipping increases to $35 to $40 for the box.

That makes your total potential profit for a $24.99 msrp between $1 and $2 normally and frequently that’s with less than perfect product packaging to display.

Then you get the joy of listening to people tell you what they saw the price at at Walmart or Mercari while the only figure out of the assortment they want is the hot one or the one that Walmart didn’t have in stock so if you don’t sell all 8 of the figures eventually at full msrp, you don’t make anything at all for the effort.

To relate it to comics, imagine you’re cost of comics and shipping to the store means you’re paying $3.67 for a comic with a $3.99 cover price printed on it. That’s what the math works out to roughly trying to stock figures from Hasbro.

Of course it’s helpful, it helps to show that there’s more than one party involved and you can’t start reparations for 1 group or another because of your ancestors bad behaviour.

I’m sorry but you don’t know your history, there’s nothing ignorant about me, In fact if you don’t know the history of slavery you shouldn’t even comment on the matter, White Europeans were being enslaved thousands of years before Africans were taken from Africa to Europe, Rome first, then islam was the main backer from the 7th centuries onwards for both white and black, I won’t go into details about its piracy, Did you even know that among the first International war America fought was against the muslims because of the piracies they were carrying out off the coast of most countries including the US, … but you know nothing of the subject clearly by the way you’ve spoken to me.
As for my comments about Hitler you’ve already proved my point, he was selective… Thought his race was better in many ways, And chose who he would scapegoat and direct his nation against, a bit like the United States with its American exceptionalism policy… see how easy it is for countries to slip into thinking they’re better than everyone else… It starts off all innocent and for the greater good and before you realize it you’re in serious trouble… Anyway you’re clearly ignorant of such historical matters so I won’t be responding to you anymore, all i can suggest is that you do a little bit of extracurricular reading of actual history books instead of comics?

Keep twisting Otto. Let me clarify further.

What I commented on was your assumptions of people looking for reparations. Was this you- “probably some of the descendants of the black people who want reparations are the ones who bought and paid for my British ancestry to be slaves” ? This right here is ignorant as you are assuming and minimizing any pain people or their families have been through. Not only that, way to go on making it about you as well.

As for the Hitler comments on choosing good jews or bad, let’s not take a few instances of his selecting who is who to diminish the fact he wanted to wipe Jewish people off of the earth.

Cool? Cool.

Carry on.

Ok folks I am gonna step in here. While we try to foster open and honest dialogues I would prefer to keep it as much to comic books as possible. I get it, this is an Odds and Ends thread which would signify that all topics are free to discuss, I would prefer that topics that can cause people to get heated stay off the board.

I really want a place free from heated debates about politics and other divisive topics as we have so much of that in our daily lives everywhere else we look.

Of course the debate on which is better DC or Marvel is always welcome.
