Online Comic Store Report Card

I will give them the fact that they were nice throughout the whole interaction, even when I let them know I wasn’t happy. They didn’t falter like some of the other places. I haven’t opened the box up but the mailer does look good… I just don’t like shipping solely in mailers as the books are still exposed to the elements, but this one is obviously good quality.

I don’t think Drewbiz is Comixsposure. Drewbiz ships his comics out immediately after release all though no matter how many books you buy they all come in one bag lol, Comixsposure just steals money and takes a year plus to ship or never ships at all or issues a refund.

I didn’t say he “is” comicxposure. Comicxposure is Eddie. Drew is a guy who works cons with Eddie and most likely works with him not at cons. They do work together though.

Well that’s the thing. He keeps bring his personal life and opinions into his business (it was proof of vaccination, not Masks). He has come across as very unprofessional. Wanting all of us to feel sorry for his choices. Hello narcissism!

I used to order from them a lot until The summer when they started doing conventions and all their orders were delayed several weeks. Now I don’t even look to see what they have. So many other options, and cheaper.

slabbed heroes did the same thing, went full blown crazy during covid. his instagram now is nothing but weird right wing stuff. post like 1 comic related thing for every 20-30 posts

Refuse vaccine=choice; can’t attend convention= consequence.

Have 5 kids= choice; can’t run small business properly without neglecting family time= consequence.

One thing one should never do is use your personal life or issues as an excuse affecting your work or business. If it starts becoming your excuse in your failing job/business, then you need to rethink your job/career/business choice and perhaps find an alternative that doesn’t take so much time away from family if you start using that as an excuse because you suck at your job!

Sounds harsh but I had a job where they were expecting 70+ hours (my first was a newborn at the time as well) a week from me. I told them to F off… so I found a new job.

Wow. What a whack job…

I’ve shopped at comic stores where I’ve become friendly with owners and in our conversations I’ve learned they may hold certain views on issues I do or do not agree with, but those are private conversations and they’re wise to not advertise these views as they want everyone who would agree or disagree to shop with them and buy comics. If a shop wants to advertise their views that is fine too, it is their right, but they can’t be mad when people respond by either really wanting to shop there or really NOT wanting to shop there.

I just wanted to give a shout-out to @ein Hooked me up with a copy of each cover of the High Republic Annual for cover price when they were selling for $25. Packaged very well and shipped quickly.

Funny thing I saw on Facebook. Frankies was having a buy one get one sale on blank covers. But people were calling them out for pricing them all at $20 each.

I would call them out for such bullshit too… geez! They hire the Scout marketing and sales team for this sale?

Chat Transcript with Rich Arnold

Chat started on 08 Mar 2022, 08:39 PM (GMT+0)
(08:39:30) **** Rich Arnold joined the chat ****
(08:39:31) Rich Arnold: RE: order #3297950
(08:42:29) **** victor von deny joined the chat ****
(08:42:33) victor von deny: Hey there!
(08:42:43) victor von deny: what is inquiry ?
(08:43:33) Rich Arnold: Hi Victor – there was a damaged book from my last order. Have yet to receive a replacement, can you check on this?
(08:43:45) victor von deny: Please send an email to info@midtowncomics.com for your damage request. Please include the order number, photos of the damages (Under 1MB), and a list of the damaged items.
(08:43:57) Rich Arnold: Did that
(08:45:09) victor von deny: ok, just give us some time as we will respond to this via email.
(08:45:21) victor von deny: you should get answer by today
(08:45:45) Rich Arnold: The response was they are deferring shipment until my “next order”
(08:46:36) Rich Arnold: …which could easily be next year
(08:47:55) Rich Arnold: Still in von denial?
(08:50:11) victor von deny: so basically if you have a damage claim that you want replaced . we have to reship this with your next order
(08:50:45) Rich Arnold: 1,) It is already paid for
(08:50:58) Rich Arnold: 2,) It is your error
(08:51:26) Rich Arnold: 3,) there is not reason why I should have to WAIT for another order
(08:51:45) Rich Arnold: 4.)That is called “CHURNING”
(08:53:26) victor von deny: and that’s totally understandable but this is the policy and what we have to do for the damage claim.
(08:54:59) Rich Arnold: and if I NEVER placed another order with you (which I am seriously considering) then I would never receive the merchandise I PAID for…?
(08:55:22) Rich Arnold: You see the problem with this
(08:56:04) Rich Arnold: Plus you are potentially asking me to pay postage TWICE
(08:57:42) Rich Arnold: What is churning in legal terms? What Is Churning? Churning is the illegal and unethical practice by a broker of excessively trading assets in a client’s account in order to generate commissions.
(08:58:16) victor von deny: Unfortunatly since this a single issue under $12 dollars we cant reship this to you, therefore we have to reship it with your next order.
(08:59:18) Rich Arnold: Or have you refund the cost of said issue
(09:00:36) Rich Arnold: I think it would be cheaper so send the issue than generate that paper work
(09:01:01) victor von deny: i totally understand you but there’s not much i can do about this situation besides replace this order. or refund you.
(09:01:06) victor von deny: what would you like ?
(09:01:44) Rich Arnold: what do you mean “replace this order”?
(09:02:05) victor von deny: i mean like replace the item
(09:02:18) victor von deny: and ship it with your next order
(09:02:36) Rich Arnold: that presupposes ANOTHER order
(09:03:30) victor von deny: at the moment we have refunded you for the damage issue.
(09:03:37) Rich Arnold: please don’t make me go full Karen and request to talk to a supervisor
(09:04:11) **** Cassandra Cain joined the chat ****
(09:04:55) Cassandra Cain: Hello! Thank you for reaching out to us. I apologize for the condition this book arrived in, and for the headache.
(09:05:20) Cassandra Cain: Unfortunately we can not ship a singular book, however we have refunded you for the price of the book at this time.
(09:06:19) Rich Arnold: Hello Cassandra – actually you COULD, you just CHOOSE not to
(09:07:15) Rich Arnold: I just broke a plate, in my kitchen. I said “oh plate, I’m so sorry!” Is the plate made whole again?
(09:07:44) Cassandra Cain: I do apologize for the inconvenience, we do this to avoid the book potentially being damaged again.
(09:08:19) Rich Arnold: Gemini mailers are extremely efficient at preventing this.
(09:09:18) Cassandra Cain: I do apologize again, at this time you have been refunded for the damaged Superman book. Unfortunately this is policy.
(09:09:56) Rich Arnold: And you ensure customer loyalty through this policy?!
(09:10:17) Rich Arnold: The plate is still broken, Cassandra…
(09:11:35) Rich Arnold: Apparently my $100 order means nothing to you
(09:12:57) Cassandra Cain: Unfortunately this is policy. At this time you have been refunded for the damaged issue. We do appreciate your business and apologize for the inconviece.
(09:14:01) Cassandra Cain: Is there anything else I can help you with at this time?
(09:14:32) Rich Arnold: Clearly you DO NOT appreciate my business or you would make me WHOLE again for the error ON YOUR PART
(09:16:17) Rich Arnold: You DO understand what “churning” an account means, do you not?
(09:16:30) Cassandra Cain: Apologies again, is there anything else we can do for you at this time?
(09:16:48) Rich Arnold: It is an illegal business practice
(09:17:18) Rich Arnold: which I believe the Better Business Bureau would frown upon
(09:17:35) Cassandra Cain: Unfortunately if there is nothing else we can help you with at this time we need to help assist other customers. You have been refunded for the damaged issue.
(09:18:10) Rich Arnold: You can assist me by explaining how exactly you arrived at this policy
(09:18:14) **** Cassandra Cain left the chat ****
(09:18:18) **** victor von deny left the chat ****

I do not purchase from them either. Only time I go to their website is to see if an issue is sold out… I’m impressed they have grown as large as they have with this type of customer service.

That is an epic back and forth. Please don’t make me go full Karen. Lol.

Also, I hate when people say I apologize, or worse “my bad” saying I apologize is like saying “I run” it’s just words it doesn’t make it true. The least you could do is say I am sorry. But businesses are taught to never actually apologize.

Full refund or reship with next order are great options imo. They only offered me partial refunds in the past.

It’s insincere at best unless you actually take direct action to make things better. Curiously, no one mentioned a refund until I brought that up. Which leads me to wonder are they prohibited from suggesting that?

I moved your topic into the existing “Online Comic Store Report”… thanks.

I purchase from Midtown less and less these days… I can’t see me ordering from them again anytime soon. Why? I don’t like companies that pass the buck and act awesome when everything is fine and dandy but as soon as there is a problem, forget it, they treat you like garbage. Midtown obviously doesn’t care about their customers. They love their customers money though. Apparently they don’t realize the two go hand and hand.
