Online Comic Store Report Card

Why I don’t order from TFAW. Put up with their nonsense for several years before I learned my lesson.

Third eye comics? Preorders i see ratios for good pricrd

I have found the links that individuals post to TFAW to be incredibly useful.
It’s Johnny-on-the-spot pre-ordering which is my style.
I don’t sit down and go through an order form as that is just too much time for me to spend.

Is there anyway links to one of the fine sellers/boardies on here could be done as well?
I dunno - just thought I’d ask as I’d certainly rather give them my money than that reckless TFAW

So here’s my last order with Unknown Comics. I bought several comics and they came stacked together with bubble wrap holding them in a tight bunch. Problem is, the person packaging the order taped the bubble wrap to the top comic, being Death of Superman 30th polybagged version. With no bag and board on this one, the tape was directly on the polybag. It was impossible to remove the tape without pulling some of the black ink from the polybag. I messaged them about it and WHAT HORRIBLE SERVICE. First they asked me if the book was damaged. I said no, but I wasn’t planning on opening the polybag because that is unique to this variant. They go on to say they are not responsible for the condition of polybags. I told them they taped directly to it, not to a bag and board. They came back and said they bag and board comics as a courtesy and don’t have to bag and board a comic. That’s not the point I was trying to get across but it was over their head at that point. Either the person I was dealing with was very stupid, or does not understand English well. They pretty much won’t take responsibility for a poor shipping decision so here we are. Unknown Comics sucks and gets a big fat F. Thank goodness I only have one remaining outstanding order with them so I can finally cut them off.

I continue to have great experiences buying from Midtown. Quick, reasonably-priced shipping, excellent packaging, and books that show up NM every time. A relatively small order this time from a recent sale. Some cheap spec (Dr. Strange, Point One), a few Wytches covers I didn’t have (an all-time favorite title for me) and a few readers at half cover price like Kroma and Batman One Bad Day.

Did, “Wytches,” ever come back? I think it did in one of Image’s anthology titles?

Yes. It has come back kinda twice. There was the Bad Egg Special. There also was a new story in the recent Image! #7 I believe.

Just received today from Izzy’s, grading company lost the first batch so huge delay for the remark order. The Freak Snow remark is outstanding! I will order more of these remarks in the future despite the delay.

Hi All - just a query as a collector from Australia I have to purchase a lot of stuff online. Can anyone recommend a store that does the bundle variants ie purchase 25 regular copies and receive the variant. I did use Villain previously but not sure if they are still around. Thanks in advance!

Did you upgrade the bags and boards or order a bunch of Mylars & Fullbacks? I ask because it’s so much cheaper to order directly from eGerber.

I have it set for full backs and mylar2 bags. Somehow, I ended up with either mag or silver age mylars and regular backs

@DarkDominionComics , one of the sponsors for this site will put together bundle variants if you reach out to them and ask.

Anyone order from 616 comics recently?
I did about 6 months ago before I realized they share exclusives with Unknown. I had hoped they didnt operate like they did. I had one comic that was still in preorder status so lets say the order is only 5 months late. It’s actually kind of funny the last Unknown order I had before I stopped w/ them actually arrived faster than this.

Got a Black Friday order from Skybound. VERY impressed with the shipping. Two slabs and 4 trades cost just $7 to ship, and it was all packed flawlessly. Everything was in perfect shape when it arrived.

All of this packaging for 2 slabs and 4 trades. Overkill, but I’ll take it.

Sup CHU, usually lurking here every day, but just wanted to share an experience so that other can take what they want from the outcome if you were considering ordering something from this retailer, and also checking to see if anyone else is having a similar experience?

Beachbum Comics F-
Buyer beware Beachbum Comics https://beachbumcomics.com/ Either they are incompetent, have terrible customer service, have an iimense backlog and cannot keep up, or to me personally feels like straight up theivery. In any case regardless of the reason, it is pretty unacceptable in this day and age to handle business like they are doing. If at some point order is received will edit this post to reflect the experience.

Based on a CHU forum reccomendation post, Preordered in January 2024 for some graded books released that month (but would need send to CGC for guaranteed grading) - no books or reponses now after almost 9 months, they wont reply to any emails or social media attempts, they did reply to a Paypal dispute saying they would send out books soon. Took that as a positive sign and let the dispute lapse since it only can stay open 30 days and now cant reopen. Months later still no books and no more communication despite weekly attempts to get any status update.

CGC forums are deleting any posts with buyers trying to talk about their negative experiences or extended delays with Beachbum Comics. Others on Reddit and CBCS experiencing the same thing.and some for longer periods of time up to 1.5 years+, same negativity with Better Business Bureau reviews coming in.

Possibly related to Frankies comics which screwed over customers a few years ago in a similar fashion from reading the CBCS post.

Currently dealing with the same issues with Beachbum comics. I have a long email chain of excuses. I did however get contacted directly via phone by the owner Drew. He was full of more excuses. He only called because informed him I had contacted a well known Youtube comic content creator who exposes companies like this…which i did do. Now armed withbyour additional information it looks like i will be giving the Youtube guy the greenlight to run with it.

Can’t stand these shady ass pop-up online shops…

Are there any good online shops on the west coast to order from? I’m on the west coast and I’ve spent a while ordering from MidTown (from New York) so it not only takes a while for boxes to get here, they often get pretty beat up in the process. Most of the time the books make it alright but more than once, I’ve gotten whole boxes with a gnarly corner - usually just on the bag and board.

I’m switching over to DCBS which is closer (Indiana) and from what I’ve heard they pack things very nicely. But I still wonder if there’s something closer.

Third Eye is in Maryland, MyComicShop/Lone Star is in Texas, and TFAW is in Oregon which might be the best I can hope for but they really don’t give you the kinds of deals on preorders that MidTown and DCBS offer and I was hoping for. I’ve ordered a little here and there from Third Eye, MCS, and TFAW and never had any problems, its just hard to get a good deal.

Is there somewhere else I might be missing? Is there not one in Southern California?

I think Beachbum has been around a long time because I have been seeing them at conventions for years (not an endorsement as I have never ordered from them). I would hope that they would be better than that.

Third Eye is great for ordering online. That’s my LCS. They do distribution for a bunch of creators including Skottie Young’s web store and Tynion’s among others. They are a lot bigger of a player than many people realize.
