Just got this a little while ago. Fantom Comics. No bag & board just in a plastic store bag and this mailer. Book is alright thankfully just surprised no bag & board unless I missed it.
Any chance the mailer was much bigger and the book slid around easily? Somewhat how my one and only order came from them and have never ordered since. Mine was bagged and boarded but no store bag. Book was beat up.
It could have slid but thankfully no damage. Definitely had room and even in the bag it was not taped to the mailer.
Had a good order from Forbidden Planet NYC come in today. Comic mailer with comics stacked inside a foam sleeve that was exactly their size so they couldn’t move much. All corners in good shape (on books and boards).
Got one comic from Forbidden Planet NYC today, well packaged and will order from them again. The only time I ordered from Fantom Comics the comics came unbagged with nothing to keep them from moving in the box, lots of damage.
You want to see something funny. I am about 30 minutes from Fantom. This is the route my package has taken.
Lmao damn that’s crazy.
I preordered 7 copies of TMNT #113B and received #113A copies instead from Comics Elite Comics. The books are all 9.8 as far as CGC goes and were packed well. They offered me a free return and they would send me the B covers, but I don’t trust any store with an exchange. I also want to stay far away from any post offices.
Did they throw it?
IMO, I cant see how ANY store can send the wrong books. They have to look at the order, verify contents and address, etc…
Three words: Under The Influence.
Fantom sometimes uses bags and boards when I order from them, sometimes they don’t. It seems random. Everything always arrives safely and seems packed tight, though, so I’m not mad at them.
If people are tired and are kind of zoned out I could see how mixing up cover a and cover b in an order could happen. It shouldn’t, but people packing are human too and make mistakes. It could be as simple as the person packing had a brain fart and for a moment thought that was cover b when they looked at it.
It happens frequently at TFAW. My 3 copies of X-Men #12 3rd printings came damaged. 3 replacements were to be sent but only 1 was. They’ve now sent me 2 2nd Prints instead of the 3rd prints. I’m averaging mistakes or damages on every other order and am on the verge of going elsewhere.
I’m not a store and on more than one occasion have sent the wrong book before. It happens. Especially in the modern comic market where 99.9% of all issues have between two and a bazillion covers.
I gave up on midtown ages ago. I had major problems with their books showing up with tons of color rubbed off onto the backing boards. Like every single marvel comic I ordered. I sent so many back they only take my returns if I pay for UPS. UPS always smashes the boxes so I don’t bother anymore.
Also I don’t get the love for Gemini mailers. Most of the time they get bent in the middle. Anything less than a box with bubble wrap / peanuts and it’s basically like asking for trouble.
I’ve never gotten a damaged book in a Gemini mailer that was packaged properly. I agree on a regular box for more expensive books.
I have. One even had some extra cardboard added… guess something hit it with enough weight to bend in the middle.
