Online Comic Store Report Card

No, but New Jersey does…

So guess unknowncomics doesnt charge for anywhere when I lived in NY no tax as well. Well it’s a win for now. And if they do eventually charge tax the bags n boards and shipping is free that’s $70 I can keep off that last order.

As much as you paid for bag and boards would’ve bought you 300-500 poly bags and boards at a comic shop.

To play devil’s advocate and give some insight into the debates internally we’ve had when discussing this, it’s not fair to complain about one thing charged higher while not taking into account things like incentives being cheaper or other discounts being higher.

We are looking at different options for including bags and boards (one thing that likely will happen is including them for free with subscriptions). But if we have to stop discounting more than other sites or raise prices on incentives to market value then people will complain about that.

Honest question. Would it be better viewed/liked more by people if it was something like in-stock and post-FOC was no longer 20% off (maybe 10% off? 15% off?) but bags and boards were free? Or if bags and boards were free but we raised prices of incentives to match eBay or closer to it if something heats up?

This all assumes of course that the world’s shortage of plastic bags is done and everything is the correct size and what not again obviously.

And as for the taxes thing, there’s nothing we can do about that. Law’s the law and whether someone else just isn’t subject to it yet or isn’t following it is out of our control obviously haha

People want their cake and to eat it too…

Yeah. And I get people will always want the best of everything for them (I would too as someone who buys comics). But I also do recognize as the person who manages marketing that charging for bags and boards while other sites don’t, even if the per-comic cost is equal or less than most other sites still, just LOOKS like a negative to people who are coming to the site for the first time or aren’t shopping around and paying a ton of attention to invoices. On the store end we look at all of the discounts for every level of product and type of product and the cost of labor and shipping etc. across every site/store (comics, walmart, amazon, etc.) and come up with a format that makes the most sense numbers wise for us, but it may not make as much sense to people or look as appealing if they DON’T have a holistic view or approach. Or do things like ONLY buy comics that are pre-FOC, ONLY buy in-stock, ONLY buy variants, etc.

@RipCityGamer TFAW ordering system is hands down the best. It’s so easy to add books or drop them. The incentive prices are also the best but they’ve become really hard to get because everyone knows it. If the bag and board prices were a little cheaper along with the economy shipping prices being a little cheaper I wouldn’t think to buy anything elsewhere.

Packaging has greatly improved as well.

Your cheaper for ratios is what I agree with on most books. But you take the discount then add in the shipping bags n boards your about equal for SOME books. This is today price on both books

But I preordered so it was $2.50 cheaper… but we add tax and shipping on how much would it be then?

That would be fine that’s what Midtowncomics does %10 free bags n boards. Collector Cave same thing.

Completely understand that. But like I said taxes cool the shipping and bags n boards was the other 2.

And that’s exactly what my responses were about. NO WAY WAS I TRYING TO :poop: ON Tfaw. As stated the incentives/ratios are fairly priced (hard as hell to get sometimes) but when I add up MY options for weekly/monthly pulls I’d like to save that extra $$.

So once again for ME Tfaw is great. These past few hiccups ( bags Ill sized, had my ratio mixed up and a few ticks on books) The add drop feature is great. I just have to SAVE more that’s all. Free shipping is a huge plus that should be considered on orders that are over a certain price for sure. And free bags n boards. That’s all.

TFAW interface is unmatched and they have the best priced variants however based on my last TFAW order the postage, bags and taxes accounted for 25% of the total purchase price. However, the biggest reason for moving to unknown comics is the quality of comics and bullet proof packing. Best of all I don’t need to email customer service. Perfect so far for my orders in the past six months.

Yeah. Like I said it is something we’re looking into. As far as taxes go that’s obviously nothing that can change. I don’t know if some other sites just don’t hit the required limits or are ignoring tax laws, but time will tell.

One way to get an idea of it is if anyone in Kansas orders from other sites. Kansas has no small business safe harbor laws and requires sellers to collect taxes on any sales made to Kansas residents whether you do $100 of sales to Kansas or $1,000,000.

I have a feeling that after this last year and so many local businesses suffering to online sales that other states will lessen their requirements as well.

Shipping we’re looking at as well to maybe adjust free shipping, and again maybe make it something focused for people who subscribe getting more discounts. We’ll see.

Hands down the best customer service as well, at least in my opinion and what I’ve dealt with.

If they are hitting the limits to charge sales taxes, let them suffer when they’re audited… they’ll just learn the hard way which is the worst kind of way to learn…

I get the bag and board issue from both sides but being in supply chain I know it’s rough right now. Supply chain is jacked right now from all the demand. Especially anything coming from China. There is literally a shortage of shipping containers. Even the LCS I go to only has mixed bags and boards right now and has been waiting for quite some time for their order.

In terms of value going from 20% to 15/10% discount as opposed to a .25 bag and board fee isn’t gonna favor the consumer especially for variants. It might make it easier to grab variants since they would be more in tune with competitors though.

Time for an update on stores I’ve been using!

Collector Cave seems to be the slowest to ship of any comic store website I’ve dealt with. I’m probably not going to work with them anymore once my second assortment of stuff I ordered from them finally ships. I had to ask about the first package after the comics for it had come out two weeks ago.

I continue to have great experiences with Comixzone although I know some people here have been burnt by them.

I also am consistently pleased with Anyone Comics, Comics Conspiracy, and Fantom Comics.

Westfield Comics is my go-to for Previews orders I don’t have with my local stores. I’ve tried M&M for some stuff too and they aren’t bad. Sanctum Sanctorum is solid too when you need some stuff before FOC.

When I’ve used @PCKComics AKA Pacific Coast Key Comics I’m always happy. Same with Savannah Comics although their site can be a little wonky in terms of its search function. State of Comics is pretty great too.

I just placed an order today from A Little Shop of Comics and Attix Comics after seeing folk talk about them here. Just some random stuff I needed. I’ll share what I think.

@RipCityGamer I agree with @Zeropepp for TFAW, especially if the bags and boards were a little cheaper and there were flat fees for shipping so I knew the shipping costs every shipment instead of it changing all the time.

I don’t mind paying for bags and boards since I have to purchase them anyway and the ones at TFAW are a higher quality than some other places I order from. I do think if they were cheaper than $0.25 it would be more in line with the market place since I’m not a bulk purchaser of bags and boards at all and it only costs me $0.20 for a bag and board.

@RipCityGamer Not sure what happened with TFAW for my most recent order but got my Batman #106 1:25 today. Card stock books are usually pretty solid but it came like this with two fairly large creases…

I’d contact their customer service. Usually chat is the quickest way. I don’t like to bother him with work stuff on his free time.

That’s how a lot of my last order came in
