Poyo's Spec for August 25th, 2021

Welcome to this weeks spec. This is where we pick the winners each week we (or shall I say myself) think will be spec worthy, a great read or just cool looking art on the cover.

Marvel Picks

Amazing Fantasy #2 (of 5) has just amazing cover art. Even if you don’t read these, it’s hard to resist from buying due to the covers alone.

Amazing Fantasy #2 (of 5) (Andrews Variant)
Amazing Fantasy #2 (of 5) (Momoko Variant)

Avengers Annual #1 (Infinite Destinies) gives us a first appearance of Multitude. We’ve been discussing this over on our forums, so it could be a worthy pick up.

Avengers Annual #1 (Ron Lim Connecting Variant Infinite Destinies)

Everybody loves Darkhawk right? Darkhawk #1 (of 5) hits stands and as I don’t anticipate any heat on this one (but you never know), I’m hoping for an entertaining read.

DC Picks

Not a whole lot on the DC radar this week.

Superman Son of Kal-El #2 (Cover A - John Timms) has a really cool cover and I’ve been looking forward to reading this title. I’m still waiting for my first issue to arrive on a pre-order. Here’s to hoping Tom Taylor makes Superman… err, his son an entertaining read.

Superman Son of Kal-El #2 (Cover B - Inhyuk Lee Card Stock Variant)

Superman Son of Kal-El #2 (Cover A - John Timms)

Indie and Small Publisher Picks

Echolands #1 (Cover A - Williams III) is a new Image title I’m hoping for a good read. I got an advanced review copy but have yet to read it. Might have to get on that before Wednesday comes.

Echolands #1 (Cover B - Williams III)
Echolands Raw Cut Ed #1 (Cover A - Williams III)
Echolands Raw Cut Ed #1 (Cover B - Williams III)

Echolands #1 (Cover A - Williams III)

If you’re into Spawn, the new ongoing title King Spawn #1 hits stands this week. Retailers went crazy getting qualified for the signed variant so there’s going to be a shit ton of these out there. Maybe in 30 years we’ll see this one finally rise in value after I’m sure a lot will make their way to the bargain bins.

Lots of covers, stick to the one you like best and leave it at that I say.

King Spawn #1 (Cover A - Lee)

Beyond the Farthest Star #1 (Cover A - Ranaldi) that’s going to be a hit or miss. I love a good sci-fi so I’m hoping this is a decent read at minimum.

Beyond the Farthest Star #1 (Cover B - Wolfer)
Beyond the Farthest Star #1 (Cover C - Wolfer Ltd Ed)

Dark Blood #1 gets a 3rd printing.

Hit new title from Aftershock We Live gets a 2nd printing of We Live #4. Might of been under ordered/overlooked by a lot of shops so for you completists, might be a toughie to find out in the wild if you didn’t pre-order a copy.

Isn’t The Darkhawk title is supposed to give us a new Darkhawk?

Sounds like it from the solicitations

“Who is the ALL-NEW DARKHAWK? Connor Young is a seventeen-year-old star basketball player with the world ahead of him, until a surprising medical diagnosis changes everything. But what happens when a mysterious amulet finds him and gives him powers beyond belief? What will he do with these new abilities? Get in on the ground floor as KYLE HIGGINS (RISE OF ULTRAMAN, Radiant Black) and JUANAN RAMÍREZ (WEB OF VENOM) start a new era. Rated T+”

Tom Taylor teased new important character in Superman Son of Kal El, for what that’s worth.

this comes out this week to, bubble gum covers tend to do well long-term. plus it will be a very hard 9.8 id imagine

Ah yeah, I got in on this one the minute I saw it. Bubble gum cover on Wolverine 15 as well. There is a virgin 1:50, though, so I’d imagine that’s the one you really want.

i hate when they do trade dress of a ratio, kill some of he heat

Ratio came after the trade dress

I’ve had a lot of sales of cover a issue 1 today and yesterday. Not sure why.
