Nope… additional prints were always lumped under the first prints. So even at the time of a second print, if Diamond had first prints available still or even 3rd or 4th prints, they’re all lumped together in the sales data. So unless Oni states how many they printed, we’ll never know the exact amount.
To make this more clear, say Comic XYZ #1 was published, shipped to Diamond for distribution.
It got popular where Diamond had X amount of copies on hand in say May of 2023 and then sold out due to demand. Before the end of May, Diamond puts in more orders to the publisher saying, everyone wants this book, we need more. Publisher initiates a 2nd printing and the deadline is first weekend of May and they say they can ship before the end of May for distribution… all those sold as first prints and second prints show up as Comic XYZ #1 in the sales reports. They don’t split these up as additional printings in the sales data, they’re all the same book in the end.
Actually, if there’s a delay between subsequent printings then you can figure it out.
Canto sold out immediately…so by the time the subsequent print orders were initiated it was a pretty clean separation how many 1st, 2nd and 3rds were ordered.
Not always the case, but sometimes you can get pretty close approximations.
Well, sort of but since you don’t have all the actual data, it’s still just assumptions…
And yes, Canto sold out immediately but what if Diamond found a box they lost and then send out to fulfill back orders from? I’m sure that’s happened. What if they hold back for damaged replacements?
In the end… we’ll never know cause they don’t provide the actual facts. So it’s all just guessing and we should stop guessing… it’s just blowing hot air!
