I did manage to get these 2 prizes though.
The Phoenix was both Adam Hughes and Allison Sohn.
The Lucille Ball homage to that famous episode with George Reeves was finished by Allison in San Diego.
This right here…
Also from my experience, I was turned away when retailers who had floor access before the general public (even those with press badges) were able to go buy from the publishers before the floor opened and wipe out the convention exclusives they had, only then to find them for sale at the retailer booths for double the price or more… sales should not be allowed before the floor open and retailers/exhibitors should be limited to just one per customer or the exhibitor must also have purchased a regular pass to qualify for merchandise that’s intended for the con attendees…
To be fair to SDCC, there was a cap limit of 1 per at Skybound and I think 2 at other comic booths.
I think many of the other hot exclusives also had a cap limit of 1 or 2.
I’m always quick to blame dealers who storm the front of the line before show opens. It is perhaps my biggest aggravation factor for years.
However, this SDCC thing was just pure unadulterated massive crowds with hoardes of people. I don’t think dealers made any impact whatsoever except for possibly actually getting their assured copies.
Can’t wait for NYCC!!!
I love smaller local comic shows. You can get in for like five or ten bucks, browse a ton of comics, cut some deals, and have fun.
For comics - yea.
But unfortunately, artists and writers - the big ones - don’t attend the small local shows.
Being that I am an OA collector more than I am a comic collector, I target artists for OA AND autographs that we just cannot get at small shows.
So its really a combo of the two to be a completist for me. Small shows for comics. Large shows for Exclusives, OA and autographs. Going forward, the “Exclusives” is likely being dumped as I am just not going to play musical chairs anymore with lines and/or have dealers thieve away at the front of the line because they’re in early.
Its not just dealers any more. This year I saw ADA people that went in front of the line more often then years before. And the sucky part was that they had the whole family with them. I mean the brother, the cousin, the cousin’s cousin, the cousin’s cousin’s cousin lol. It was really something to see.
$20 shipping is crazy, but here you go.
Would have probably bought one but they are charging WAY too much for shipping. Strong pass.
